TEFFY-

OK I did it, here it is, the announcement of the planned online celebration on Friday at 9:00pmEDT/8:00pmCDT/7:00pmMDT/6:00pmPDT -
http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=36117
Oh, and Bob…since this is online it doesn’t matter what you wear…or don’t.[}:)]

Good afternoon everybody…spent the day chain sawing. No, not building benches as planned, but helping my two sons who have new homed on the other side of the hill from me. Their land overlooks the town reservoir, so silt gets washed down from all the heavy rains we have had lately. We have to prevent this silt from entering the brook that feeds the water resource, so I had to cut up some fallen trees so that they could plant grass and place sod and new trees to stop the silt runoff. It was muddy, and many logs were in the mud, so I had to be extremely careful with the saw. My son came home as I was finishing the work, and brought me a Jack Daniels & Coke. Now get this guys…I was fasting from 7:30 last night for a Cholesterol blood test given at 7:30 this morning, I had not had lunch yet, I was very dry, and it sure went down easy…but on an empty stomach. Not a good idea!!! After I finished this tall glass, I was whoosey for sure. It was a good thing that the chain sawing was done for the day!!!
Bench work? Tomorrow I guess now…

Antonio: You are a good man…you have tried several times to “enlighten” Parker. So have I, but when a man is in his teens or 20’s, the testosterone runs high in some men, and they don’t listen to anyone. If they make it alive to 30 or sometimes as late as 40’s, they “usually” see the light and walk the straight path. We all need to help him, and show a great deal of patience…it will not be easy guys.

ELLIOT: Nice pictures of your layout, and your children look very happy, that is a credit to great parents Elliot!!!

GA TOM: Not much warmer up north here in Central Mass Tom, it never got above 45 today. Heavy clouds at times and then very sunny at other times. A lot of instability in the atmosphere with that upper level LOW system moving over us. Your view of the Appalachians all snow covered must be very beautiful. This same mountain chain is just 40 miles west of me…the Berkshires as they are called here in Mass, the

I just saw Duke’s info on his friend Lou, I want to say that we will be praying for a postive outcome from his operation. Duke, when I had my prostate removed two years ago this August, I had to use a “bag” for about 10 days. I don’t think Lou will have this type, because he will probably have a permanent bag, although I don’t know why, because if he has a new bladder made from intestines, he should not need a bag after this heals. In anycase, “attitude” is critically important to good health and healing.

Hello All, Jim i took the picture without the lights on just the light under my layout shining upwards, i looked at it and thought that look’s like a dusk shot and hey presto it worked, none of my layout is portable but i do have a small section of layout i take outdoors for doing pictures for my Ebay adverts

Jim, Thanks for the advice, I’ll keep that in mind.

Der, I saw your e-mail. I think I found the book through the library system. I have it on order from another library, I’ll see when it gets here. And have you tried using 91% rubbing alcohol to strip models? It does everything but the heat stamped lettering, and that I took off with a lot of brushing on of some Polly scale Easy-lift-Off. It’s what I used to strip the engine I’m working on now.

Si, thanks for passing the Fergie photos along, there neat to see!

Steve, glad you liked the idea of dusk shots. Psst! If ya wanna know the truth, Really the shot just wasn’t lit right so I added a light and it came up with that. I decided to call it dusk. Just don’t tell anybody! I like the shot you did with the idea too!

Well, I better get going, I got things to do, homework, layout, ect, so I’ll see you all tomorrow!

Noah

Well hello again Zoe,a beer for me and same again for jim and big boy in the corner there. Well a happy half-hour spent surfing the C.N.site I mentioned for John earlier, just to make sure I hadnt sent him off on a wild wander, only to find that both my G.T.W locos have enough glaring faults to render them only fit for radio --one is completely wrong livery, the other never ran for G.T.W and should be lettered for D.W.P -although the base livery is right and I have the decals I cant find any reason why it would be as far east as I need it -this could be an I.M.T.S compromise (its my train set) -John- the C.N.site is there-you want the section headed CNCYCLOPAEDIA. Well the nation is gripped with election fever, and as usual when the circus is in town, the clowns are centre stage–stay tuned for updates on your local comedy channel…O.K.,Zoe,same again please and I`ll sit back and listen for a while, nick

Good Evening, all! Chloe, a mocha smoothie, please. Thanks.

[#welcome] Teebee - enjoy yourself here and feel free to ask questions (or answer any in your own field of expertise. What can you tell us about your layout (period and RR line being modeled, how far along are you on it, etc.)? You’ll probably find someone here at about the same stage in getting things done/detailed/sceniced or whatever. Scale you model in? Fill us in please, inquiring minds want to know… [;)]

Grubby, did a lot of that ‘finger modification’ in my art major days (hand-cutting matt boards is not supposed to be literally hand-cutting, is it?). Glad that the four Band-Aids™ were able to stop it and nothing ended up in the chili! (Sorry, couldn’t resist, having gone to that restaurant on Sat. and ordered their chili…)[}:)][;)]

Antonio, good to see you back in again! I don’t get to much of the other forums, so I’d missed that Al was back again. Have to say it would be good for all if he could ease up on his ways.[sigh] Better get back here soon before Ed’s orange trees run out and he doesn’t have any more to send up to the Shop. [;)]

Matt, sounds like what happened to your Me PC is like what happened to ArkJim’s (I think he had Me on his, at least).

Elliot, kudos on the layout - and having it interactive is a nice touch! From the pics, I assume the people could press a button - to move a car to that siding, or what? And I didn’t look really close - was it set up as a Timesaver?[}:)] That grain elevator looks very nice! How tall does that stand? Everything is bigger in O scale, huh?

JP, thanks for getting that pulled together! [:)][tup] I think I found some Harleys on Walthers site, but not sure what year/period they would be. To me, (duh) all Harley’s look alike (except for the newer ones with the refrigerators and the stereos built-in).[swg]

Duke, sorry to hear about Lou - let him know we are definitely praying for him and for his doctors.[angel]

[censored]. It is very difficult to be funny and say cute things when someone has a BIG problem. So-
Duke-no jokes, no sayings. Just tell Lou Deb and I will be and are adding him to our prayers. Wrote down more but this is enough.

About clear nights- When a kid at Gramps farm in Conn., the Milky Way was a magnificent sight.

GMT- Zoe sold the Indian, got the Buell, a trailor and new leathers. Had enough $$ to get the new LONG tatoo.

Cape Jim- Try your Hallmark store for the bikes.

Antonio- His mouth overshadows his tremendous talent.

tebee-[#welcome]. Hard or soft- the drinks on my tab.

Siber Tom- Do you Really want to know???

JHH- I lied! It’s not an Athearn. Might be a AHM.

Teffy- There you go again. Giving away my secrets. And you are wrong. Dirt is at least a month older than me.
As for the party- Deb wants to see her Mom in Miami. Been a long time and Mom has her problems also. Probably leave Fri. nite, have Sat. and leave early Sunday for a memorial service for a favorite aunt. Passed at 93. Oh boy! Memories of the good times at her home. And her baking! No wonder I was 161 lbs. at 12 years old. And yes, aBIG hs in Miami.
Thats it for now. Prayers for those, heck ,for all. Be careful out there.
Flip

Evening Tom - Let me buy ya a drink… Zoe - My tab…Tom’s drink!

Jim - Just emailed ys that list. It’s apretty lenghty one so be ready for a LONG list!

Duke - Let Lou know we’re all here pulling for a quick and speedy recovery and that he’ll be in our thoughts and prayers till such time!

Well all, I think it’s time for a beer. Glad I got a free 12-pk the other day!
Take care and I’ll chat w/ ya’ll tomorrow.
JP

Grayfox - How’s the weather in MA tonight?

Good Evenin’ Everybody,
Today was a good day in the mountains. The Southern lt. mountain is programed and has been put to work pulling a short consist of express reefers and coaches. The day was not without a challenge or two. Despite having test run it extensively, it decided today that it wanted to derail the rear tender truck fairly regularly. The wiring bundle to the connectors at the rear of the loco had gotten pulled a bit too much towards the rear of the tender and was putting a strain on it in curves. After that was sorted out, no problem. It took a while to figure out what was going on and sort it out, but that’s OK.

Tomorrow will be a workday at the club layout. We’re changing it to Tuesday to try to increase the turnout and get more done. The project for tomorrow is to install track lighting above the layout. That should improve things considerably, especially for us old guys who need lots of light.

Either Wednesday or Thursday I’m going to go down to Bill M’s to do some exploring along the former L&N down in the flatter lands. That should be fun, too.

Antonio, lots of people tried to reason with Big Al and try to get him to calm down some. You, to your credit, tried particularly hard and often. It’s a shame because he is a very talented modeler. Sometimes people have to learn for themselves, the hard way. It’s always a pleasure to see you in the coffee shop. Stop by anytime for an OJ.

Bill North, It might be time for two pots, or just a bigger one. Louise and I are both big time coffee drinkers, so we’ve got the giant economy size. During the week it’s just to get us up and going for the day, but on the weekends, when nobody has to go running out the door we slow down and really enjoy it.

Elliot, that’s a cool layout. It looks like everybody was really having a good time with it.

BJ, I hope Lou’s surgery and recovery go well. We will keep him in our prayers.

Grayfox, Sounds like the timing was excellent

Nick: The CN site tells me the GP 35 suspect I saw is in fact a GP 38-2 (#4727) thanks again. I’m going to check on my CN models and see what the road #s they have correspond to in real life. I’ll also try the updated site you mention.
As to the horns, I’m going to look at my photos again, but I didn’t see any where you describe and LL placed them, hence the confusion. I’ll look at the new sites you mention as well. Again thanks for your info.

Duke:

[#ditto]

Elliot: Thanks for the photos. Always impressed by your layouts[tup] good also to see the young chap responsible for those delicious cyber-cookies back in the GBP hexing days!!![yum]

Noah: The circuit is on page 19 (in the edition I have ) LED Grade Crossing Flasher. If it isn’t in the book, email me again.
The paint is now coming off, and if it needs the further encouragement of the alcohol, I’ll know what to do. Thanks.

Heard from Fergie. He has now run out of MRR things to do, and so is looking forward to getting back more than ever. Says he can’t really think about his garden when he’s surrounded by snow capped mountains!

That’s about it for today, so Good night all, and God bless.

quick question: When did the MKT stop running the texas special?

Hi Gang;

Duke, tell Lou that I’ll give a blow on the whistle for him. I’ll say a prayer for him also.

Ken, in Bobs case it does matter. Computers can be very sensitive.

Bill, let me know if I can be of any help.

Grubby, I keep forgetting that too. Of course I’ve also dropped my knife and had it stick in the toe of my boot. Fortunately it didn’t go all the way through.

Welcome tebee. Nice to have you drop in. Have a cup or glass of your favorite on me. Tell us a bit more about yourself. We’re a noisy bunch.

Elliot, those are good pictures. I’d say that seeing the smiles on those faces is a good pay back.

Ga Tom, those minutes were fun. Cost a bunch in ammo, but kept Charley guessing. Great stress relief to.

Well I got the topos today and they helped a bit but know I’d like to get the 1to 24,000 of the same area. I’ve still got a lot of unanswered questions as to the route and location of the track to the dock and the dock. Of course it will take about ten of those to cover the area at $15 per. I’ve got to find a cheaper source for them.

Good Night All

Paul

The Duluth, Superior, & Southeastern

“ The Superior Route “

Time to say goodnight Zoe…long hard day.

JP: The weather was strange here today in Central Mass, one minute blue skies with a few clouds, the next minute…cold, cloudy, windy, and a few lazy snowflakes. It eneded up clear by nightfall, and a beautiful orange moon rising. Can Ed have something to do with that? hmmmmmmmmm I wonder, Orange moon, Orange grove, Ed not home!!

MATT: Are you using Me OS on your PC???

GA TOM: Yup, that Jack & Coke is one smooth drink after a hard days work isn’t it?

Time to hit the sack, bon soir mais amis.

Early morning all. [8D]

Alex [:)]

I emailed you a link.

http://www.kingswayrc.com/gcst/roster/1205.html

I hope that helps. [;)]

A 45 [:)]

I have posted before about your “people” skills and knowing what to say at the right time. I think the president should nominate you as an Ambassador. [:D]
You definately have my vote. [:)]

As always I am praying for all those who request prayer, and for all in the coffee shop too.

Hey guys, check this out.

http://www.webspawner.com/users/engage/peoplemover.html

I like that little thing. I want one. [:D] (Come on Paul, you know you do too. [;)] )

Well I guess I will go to bed now. I probally will be up in 5 hours. [:(]

Take care. Stay Safe. Got Milk?

Good Morning all,
I’ve been busy on room construction (still) moved the water heater.put a false floor in where the heater was (the house was built in 1929 and the "train room"is where the coal bin was, and none of the floor is very level or thick). I now need to finish one wall frame and build the 4th side then maybe I can get back to layout construction.
Does anyone know of a single book that covers most types of locomotives, or at least one each for steam and diesel? The variety of basic types alone is a confusion for me and I’ll never figure out the variations without more knowledge. Something along the lines of Janes Trains, but I haven’t found anything yet.
Nick in Wales. It turns out that FL9’s weren’t used on the Berkshire branch to Danbury. Danbury only had overhead wires (taken down in the 60’s) and never had a third rail. The trains now use diesel onlyas near as I can tell. Whilst I was sleeping the last 20 years, it seems there has been a bit of a rennisance and both the Berkshire branch line (now renamed the Housatonic Railroad as it was originally) and the Maybrook freight line have become active again. At least the Maybrook on this side of the Hudson River - the bridge at Poughkipsee never got rebuilt and the big yards in Maybrook are now gone. As for Zoe, I would have thought a former Playboy model would be more at home on a double knocker Norton, surely she wouldn’ ride the same sort of bike Bob Dylan was so badly injured on?
Launched the trailer to Atlanta this morning, so back to regular work (I have someone else covering the event for me so I get to stay home for another week). My best wishes to all especially the wounded. regards, J.R.

Greetings, all!

Little MRR news to report, except I’m ~80% done with the wiring on that primary block. A kindly neighbor with a huge zero-turn mowed my entire lawn yesterday – great guy, he dabbled briefly in MRR himself but suffered burnout after about 2 years – but he always perks up when I talk about mine. Anyway I hope the mechanic finishes on my tractor before the weekend so I [or better yet, my son] can resume caring for the lawn….!

Tebee – [#welcome]!

Bill –

I grew up in Livonia, lived there until I was 7. I bet the place has really changed a lot since the early Sixties.

Si –
Enjoyed seeing the pictures Fergie sent, thanx for sharing them.

Duke –
That’s really tough news about Lou, I’ll definitely keep him in my prayers. I think as long as he stayed surrounded by a great group of friends and family, his good attitude can survive.

JP / Flip / ArkJim – Sorry you guys can’t make the party on Friday.

GA. Tom –
About that Mountain – it’s always something isn’t it, glad you were able to identify the root cause.

*** –
It appears you are giving as much of your time to your sons now as you did when they were kids[tup]. It would be great if they could return the favor, and help you with that benchwork – they owe you for sure!

. . .
Later, everybody have a great day!

Morning guys!

Jim, thank you for your compliment.

Actually, I don’t think I’d be a good ambassador in today’s world. I just can’t get into this “bleeding heart” political correctness “junk” that Hollywood has helped fester.

Been really busy and haven’t worked on my HO stuff in over a week. I hope to really soon. I’m ready to build my layout, it’s just a matter of “making time”.

Well, got to go back to the daily grind! Don’t forget to contact your senator and demand that he support Amtrak!

Enjoy your the coffee and juice!

OOPS![:O]Guess the drinks are on me; Chloe, go ahead and refill everybody’s glasses…

JimCG, good morning, I see you’re the only other one here at the moment.

I had to cut my previous post short, so I could get my daughter to school on time, now where was I…?

Stan -
I see you like GE power. Were you inspired to buy that NS Dash8-40C because of that nearby NS single-track mainline that snakes in and out of the hills in your area? Bet you can do some great railfanning in those parts! As for me, it will definitely be at least a year or two before I get back to 'Bama - my wife and her sister have stopped talking to each other![:(]

Antonio -
I’m [pleasantly] surprised to see you back here this morning, I thought you only visited whenever the “Vincent vanGogh of MRR” makes his mischief on the forum (sadly, talent and mental instability often go hand-in-hand). Regarding the Amtrak issue, I’m caught between a rock and a hard place: it seems like most of the people in today’s Congress who support Amtrak, are also polictally in bed with radical Hollywood[sigh].

[break over - back to work now]
