Good Morning all, coffees on and fresh.
Elliot - first and foremost thank you for starting all this. In the short time I’ve been here it feels like home - and thank you to the rest of you for being there.[bow]
I see Ken was on before me so it must be a late start to the day here.
[#welcome] William North - this is a good place to hang and the rest of the MRR site has been a huge help to me since i needed to catch up on a 20 year absence.
Flip - I thought Zoe rode an Indian? Actually in view of the number of people from GB and the Empire, perhaps she should ride a Brit bike - perhaps a Vincent or a Norton of suitable vintage? Thanks for the reference to the web tour - that was cool and the layout was neat and better yet do-able in scope.
Noah,Siberianmo and Steve - thanks for the pics - I’m still working on taking legible photos and have started changing the lights around in the train room since the flash assist only highlights the bare plaster and missed spots. This digital stuff takes time!
derJohn - what brake fluid are you using? I know from sad experience that if you even get one drip on paint it bubbles instantly. Perhaps you can put the stuff out in the sun to warm up if the sun ever comes back out where out there in the Maritimes. Warm brake fluid brushed on should lift just about anything. You could also try paint stripper that is safe for glass fibre bodywork as the Corvettes are all made with polyester resin for a binder and the usual stripper make a mess of rhe gel coat under the paint. If you do try it, use some on a piece of scrap first since i don’t know for sure that it won’t react with styrene.
JP - hope once the move is done you can find the time to at least start a shelf system. After a rough day I can unwind just by running what little I have done so far.
TrentB - hope the tests and exams both work out ok. Best of luck.
To the rest of the wounded and recovering we offer our prayers and best wishes.
Off to work for me (the morning post
I’ve got a few of these in my fleet , the mech is by Roco, but I remember the motor as being a Silver, rather course, can motor. But there were at least two production runs of this loco and I think it’s been reintroduced by someone else now (E&R?)
The mechs on the do strugle after not being used for a while, I suspect the oil in the trucks goes waxy, a bit of use seems to bring them back to life, but even then they are not the best of runners, live you say relitively high starting voltage and current and not the smoothest of runners. I wouldn’t say they were that low geared though. I havn’t bothered with it but the way to go is probably swap out the motor for a mashima 1833.
Oddly enough I have a freelance Boxcab built on a european prototype Roco chassis with what looks like the same motor and truck design and this always work perfectly …

Good Mornin’ Everybody,
It’s a beautiful but chilly morning in the mountains today. We got down to about 30 last night, I don’t see any snow anywhere except way up on the tops of the mountains. They are sparkling white and very beautiful. It’s supposed to warm up into the 50’s later today and then start getting back up to more normal temps for late April.
Today will be a railroad day. The lt. mountain is ready to program and be put to work. That’s first on the list. Then there is more scenery to be built. It’s going to be a good day.
Teebee, welcome to the coffe shop. Have a cup and enjoy. Tell us a bit about yourself.
Paul, “mad minute”, now that’s an expression I’ve not heard in a while.
Bill North, that’s an excellent sign. I hope it works well. That’s as good a way to go as any of us can hope for, but good friends will always be missed because they are treasures.
Flip, I think Deb’s idea is the right one. I’d also go for lunch and the paper.
I’m going to make this short this morning because there’s model railroading to be done.
Have a great day, everybody,
Ga. Tom
[oops] - Sorry 'bout that, Si. My misread! Guess I could look into getting that kit and modifying it for this place…[:)] Have to find an HO scale Harley and Buell, perhaps. Have the motorcycles changed much over the years, or does anyone know of a manufacturer for a 50’s model Harley? [:-^]
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Hello Crew!
Wishing you all well! Temp here in the sunshine state is in the 60s and 70s.
Guys, I just had to comment that I was honestly shocked this morning after I saw the post from Al-Parker Legend 7 as well as the responses he left on other topics. It saddened me as several of us tried to reason with him before, months back.
I do hope that he read my message to him before Bergie deleted his topics and the responses he made to other topics. If his superiors in the fire dept. ever find out about the types of posts he made here in the past, he may hurt his chances for career advancement. I even indicated that it’s likely other firefighters in the city may be model railroaders and could easily show other employees and bosses his posts. Nowadays, employers scrutinize more than ever. In my early 20s, my big mouth and hot temper helped stall my career. I grew up quickly after I got married! I know many of you don’t like Al, but I see him as me (to a small degree) at that age. Hopefully when he hits his 30s, he’ll look back and say to himself “Lord, I really was a fool!”, just as I did.
Anyway, thanks for letting me express myself here. I don’t drink coffee, but maybe next time I’ll have some fresh orange juice!
Peace, amigos![4:-)][tup]
BTW:
Where’s Big_Boy_4005?
I haven’t read from him in a while! Hope he’s o.k.
Man!!,
My wife"Kitty" has cut down on my coffee consumption, by two cups a day. For years I have started my day with a pot of coffee. That little waif that I love so dearly has started drinking coffee again!!! I try to tell her that it’s bad for her, but she won’t leave my pot alone!!! LOL
Well it’s time to start my day.
Have a good one,
Bill
Lots and lots of rain, but they did guess it would be this way!
Nick, it was I asking about the CN data. Thanks for the site, I’ll have a look.
The paint on that LL shell loosened up somewhat overnight. Now I’m down to the paint under the paint! (and yes, thanks, I was using a tooth brush. I guess it’s a matter of wait and wait, and eventually it will all come loose. Much detail was hiden by the factory applied paint. I must go easy when I re-paint for VIA.
siberianmo: Where does the horn go on the VIA FP40(?)? The nose photos I have don’t show one, and the 5 chime jobbie that LL put over the cab on the Amtrack model doesn’t look right. I took that off before starting the paint stripping. Come to that, where’s the bell? Not modeled by LL. afaics.
[#welcome] tebee. We have a number of Toms here, distinguished (aren’t they though![:D]) by either their predeliction, like BridgeTom (aka CatTom) or their location as in Ga Tom(see above) . But since we can only guess at either in your case, tebee it is for now.
Nick’s neighbour in Wales, UK Matt may well be interested by your Roco units.
Antonio: Yes, let’s hope he grows up sometime soon!
He was inon the last page (426) to give us all a heads-up about the 1st anniversary of the Coffee Shop this coming Friday.[tup] Seems live and well.
Bill
Time to spring for another coffee maker, His and Hers?[swg]
Have some other sites to check out.

I’m almost always around guys. Sometimes I just don’t have much to say. The layout has been on hold the last few weeks, because I was preparing for a show which we did last weekend. It was a lot of work, but it went well. We almost won the people’s choice award on Saturday with our interactive switching layout. Here are some photos.
Hi all
Well, was having a reasonable day until about 4pm, when one of our PCs decided to expire. It threw a hissy fit and keeled over, then refused to restart whatever I did. At the moment, it’s getting Windows 98 installed in place of ME (which is truly the worst O/S ever), so hopefully it should be “live” again tomorrow.
Jim, I’ve no idea what it was that killed the rat - it was found tangled in a plastic bag, so I suspect it either ate some of the bag or crawled in there after either getting “winged” by our mouse trap or poisoned elsewhere (we don’t use poisons - too much risk of ending up with a dead, decaying rodent in an inaccesable area). No reappearences since we concreted the hole!
Rob, I’m guessing the Disco isn’t a common sight over there? Basing this on having seen it in a few movies where it was depicted as being an upmarket luxury vehicle driven by successful business people - kinda funny as 95% of the Discos near me are working trucks with mud covering both sides, towbars, back full of tools, etc - hardly a luxury vehicle though it’s comfier than a Defender… Hope the Ikea stuff goes together ok - I found it was well-engineered and simple enough, so long as you follow the instructions closely - suspect that’s where the problems start with most people!
Nick, I have a couple of the E R Models FP7s - mine are in Milwaukee Road paint and were bought late last year from Hattons (they still have a few of them in other paint schemes, and some Baldwin Sharknoses - absolute bargains for £30 each). DCC is an easy installation and they run really well with a Lenz BEMF decoder fitted. By the sounds of it there have been some different versions of the chassis - mine has a standard Roco unit with single flywheel and a sort of can/open frame motor (shaped like a can but with large cutouts) - not sure if it’s 3 or 5 pole but they perform very well under DCC.
Elliot, that’s an impressive layout - how many people does it take to set that up? I’ve bui
Flip - Not sure what plumbing will do for MRRing, but hey… who knows these days!
JimCG - I got the list done - Just hyave to email it to ya…hopefully I can get on a cpu at the library in a few hours to send it to ya.
Tom - Thanks for the prayers.
JP
Matt, I get help from Big Girl setting up the tables and the track. That’s her in the fourth picture. I do all of the technical stuff of course, including the wiring, the complexity of which is not at all obvious from the photos. She also helps watch the trains and talk to the visitors.
Those aren’t my kids in the second and third photos, they were just a few of the visitors that tried their hands at doing some switching. It wasn’t a contest, just free form. I would either make up a problem or ask the kids where they wanted the cars to go. Then I ran the throttle and coached them with the switched and uncouplers on the control panel.
These are my kids. They weren’t at the show, but they get to see and play with the layout, because I have it set up in my basement so I can run something while I build my real layout.
Evening Clubbers, hows everybody doin?–Tea for me please Zoe,thank you. Well thats another day of barrowing and shovelling I wont have to do again…although the threat of yet more rain added a certain zest to the proceedings MATT-batten down the livestock mate looks like more of the same coming in.!! GRUBBY- I know that song soooo sooooo well, heal quick mate! JOHN-hope the site is useful,R.E -VIA F40s I have the Walthers models for both VIA & GOTransit and they both have a 5-horn flat rack recessed in above the windsceens-in fact, the only difference is an extra roof vent(dynamic brake?/steam heat?) on the via unit -What are you planning for decals?--Microscale 87-667 is a good
mixed bagthat will do F40,FP7a & b FA4a&b plus SW1000- I found a site months ago that had a load of F40 VIA action, its called something like Canadian Railways Photographs or something similar.-mostly shot around South Ontario /Toronto-might be good for a particular unit I.D. GMT-For a lady as graceful and elegant as Chloe,it would have to be a Triumph Bonneville surely?!! -The 650 in U.S. export trim of course!!! TEEBEE -Thanks for the lowdown on those F-units BIG-BOY- nice layout but I couldnt spend more than 30 or 40 hours continuously operating it!!!! MATT -as above on the "F
s",have to go check out Hattons!! as to the Disco`s,we have em in the same range of soothing earth tones down here-could I add to the potential cargo list “small to medium livestock”… O.K.-thats me for the train, take care now, regards, nick
Hello Elliot and Jim(CG), let me buy you guys a drink. Yo, Chloe…?
Elliot -
That’s a nice picture of your kids. I wish more members would share pictures of themselves and their families (I have, earlier), it increases my comfort level immensely; reassures me that I’m communicating with a “real” person and not some cyber-ego.
Jim -
Did you say you’re expecting that Roberts kit to arrive this afternoon? Hope you get it soon, after all the pain you’ve been thru. And congrats on completing the roadbed[tup]
.
OK my break is over, back to work…C-ya!
Pictures from Fergie …
Thought those of you who “remember” Fergie would appreciate seeing these photo’s forwarded by e-mail: (Click to enlarge)
My guess is that these were taken on Sunday at the Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Historic Train site. The Newfie Bullet lives!
What else would a sailor going ashore do with free time?
See ya![tup][;)]
Tom (Siberianmo)

Bill North
I will talk to my two friends and maybe we will be able to stop for a little bit and then head back over to the lake and head north along the water.
Boy do I and when I was a kid even down here you could see a lot of stars but with all the building that has gone on and lights they just don’t show the way they used to. Looking forward to it will be in touch with email and will put your address in my book.
Grubby
Seems we have been told that bbuuuuuttttt. Only four band-aids that isn’t too bad[;)][:-^]
JR
I would like to second that[^][8D][:)][tup]
tebee[#welcome]and this is truly a great group of people to be with.
AntonioFP45
Let’s hope so but it took some of us a little longer to learn to control the temper and other things but age does have a way of doing it in most cases.

[#welcome]tebee, I hope you find this forum useful. I know i sure have, everyone is really helpful and i would like to say thanks for everyones help they have given me.[^][:D][8D]
Everyone,I wanted to do this as a separate post.
I talked to Lou yesterday and he said they will take the bladder and he is set for Thursday for the operation. They are going to try and make one from the intestine but he said he will still need a bag and I don’t know what it is called. He said the doctor told him he will lose another function but that Viagra could help and there would not be any sensation. They aren’t sure if any thing else has been affected and won’t know until they get in. He seems to have a good attitude right now and time will tell if it stays there.
I told him he has a lot of people pulling for him and he said thank you and let me add my thanks as well. You truly are a GREAT GROUP of PEOPLE and FRIENDS.
Duke
i hope everything works out for him and at least he has a good attitude right now.
Ok all drinks are on me
