OH YEAH[:P][:P][:P]
Steve, I don’t mean the end of the work week. beside, we are just coming off a weekend. [;)]
This Friday is kind of special, does anyone know the significance???[%-)][%-)][:D]
Coffee Shop 1st anniversary isn’t it?
I know (and my recent email to you should prove it).
But I’ll let somebody else guess…[:D]
Hint: It’s mentioned on a recent video on the Classic Toy Trains forum…
It’s a VERY special weekend for me, there’s two steam excursions next saturday morning, both only half an hour’s drive from home so it’s going to be a steam fest day, as if this isn’t enough theres two more the following saturday to see. That’s why i am very excited about Fridays
[:P][:D][:P]
All right, Ken, unfair advantage for those of us Mac users (without PC emulation software) - that video has to be downloaded and then run on a PC![}:)][:(!][:-,]
And no, I don’t think they’d appreciate it if I did that at work, where I have a PC to use… [;)]
But putting all that aside, I would guess that it’s the first anniversary of the Coffee Shop (since the video referred to was posted at or close to the start of another forum somewhat similar to ours (but of course, not as good a bunch of people as we have here…[;)]), and that forum refers to the coffee pot always being on there.
I just think we have better looking help here - right Flip? [}:)]
I await confirmation on my guess of the significance of Friday (at least, I await someone to prove that it’s not that).
Blessings - from here to Friday,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
And that is indeed what Friday is, the coffee shop’s first anniversary. My how time flies when you’re having fun.[^]
Cape Jim- You are most correct. Chloe and Zoe are Both past winners of Miss America contests and were PlayMates of their respective years. As Deb has told me many times, You can look, but don’t touch. Be forwarned- Both ladies are holders of BlackBelts Martial arts.
Happy anniversary to all of us.
Flip
Good afternoon, Zoe - I’d like some chips with nacho cheese and a Mr. Pibb, please! And I’ll cover Elliot and Nick’s orders too, please.
Ken, I think you might be right - don’t know that Deb would go for the ‘missing boxcar’ excuse. [;)] Although after reading Flip’s response, it sounds like the story about “what would a dog do if it actually caught the car it was chasing…?”[}:)]
And anyone else wonder, how come “Tim the Toolman” (Home Improvement) never used a Dremel (or even a generic mototool)? He used about every other power tool in the book![swg]
Siberianmo, your version of the Shop needs one thing, though - a motorcycle out front (a Harley if it’s Zoe’s shift, or - ? what’s that other brand of cycle Chloe drives? - if Chloe’s on, or both out front if it’s shift change (dinnertime or breakfast) and both of the ladies are in. But it looks like an excellent 50’s shot of this place! [tup] Who makes that kit, by the way?
Si, it was cold this a.m. Hope you got some of the sunshine up your way that we did today. It was windy as all get out, but I think it might have made low to mid-60’s (F temperature).
Attaboy, good to see you back in the Shop again. Glad you’re keeping up with the reading even when you can’t post.
***, maybe Ed’s vehicle doesn’t have a big enough trunk when he goes to his LHS?[;)] You’re right, peanut butter does wonders for those Snappers. Back when I was married, we had a walk-out basement door to the carport that had a very small gap under that door. Every spring and fall, had to get out the PB and the Snappers for the little varmits. (Hope the ASPCA’s not monitoring this forum.[:O])
Noah, take good notes when you mix up your paint, as when you get that right grey it’ll be sooooo much easier to match it again on the next engine. Sounds like you’re gonna have a lot of fun with that airbrush.[tup] Enjoy![:)]
Matt, perhaps the rat ate something in the garden that didn’t agree with it? [:-,]
Ken… right now I have only two HO engines, the Dash 8-40C Atlas { Norfolk Southern } and the GE AC4400CW Kato { BNSF } I’m new to MRR and still learning about all these different engines. [%-)]
Stan.

Forgot to say the dessert was enhanced by a blackberry and blueberry mixture, unsweetened. The sweetness of the butterscotch pudding took care of that!
Noah: Check your email re the crossing circuit.
I have the shell of my (ex)Amtrack PH40 (or whatever, but that sounds a little too alkaline) soaking in brake fluid. So far the only paint that has come off is the red stripe, not the blue, and the rest of the paint, silver, black, white letters, won’t budge. Suggestions welcome. It’s a Life Like model.
Time to see the Discovery channel program about the Japanese super subs from the end of WWII.

Hi Gang;
Bill. I’ve got some bells I think and if you will drop me a line I’ll give a look see. Where was the bell mounted?
Elliot. Where have you been hiding? It’s good to hear from you again. How’s the layout doing?
Well I’m going to cut and run.

Cape Jim- Tch Tch Tch! Are you getting Old? Chloe rides the Harley, Zoe rides the Buell.
Well almost time to shower and stack zzzzzzzzzzzzz’s. Sleep well ya’ll.

Good Evening All and Happy Anniversary --Ladies,a round for the house if you please, Well as Matt noted earlier, the weather front has rolled off of the Welsh coast so we have been out and about shaking off cabin fever, but still managed to fit in some useful time working on the F.P.7 paint jobs-next stage,decals-rub downs in this case, which is not a form im overly familiar with for one and waterslides for the other. In fact,I have a question or two about these units that you guys might be able to help me with, They are Atlas H.O. and are new from the box ,although the box had been sitting in the store for at least 15 years. I have magazines from then which show a 1991 production run of these so I guess that ties in. so,question--I
ve been running them in,on the bench, and they seem to draw a huge current for very little reward— are these units very low geared? the motor (xo4 type but skew-wound 5 pole) seems to be quite low-revving and needs a fairly high starting voltage-- will this smooth out with use? any advice welcomed. O.K.,recent flags,JIM: gentle words, softly spoken, point taken…CAT/TOM:Yes the Welsh do seem to specialise in baritones-Its the register that projects most clearly on and about the rugby field, leading on to,party animals-again ,yes, a cornerstone of Celtic tradition G.A.Tom-L.S.-loved that double album they did from The Fox ,fine version of Crossroads Matt-at last, its stopped!!!!RAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....just seen your appraisal of recent Farish product--I stand corrected.......GENERAL:Somebody asked me about C.N. rosters the other night, best I can offer is C.N.Lines S.I.G. I
ve found everything I`ve need there so far. tap in Canadian National Lines to your browser and go from there, loads of stuff inc. G.T.W,D.T.I etc. O.K.,back at the cement-mixer in the morning so a peaceful night to one and all, regards, nick
I took the video tour of the layout. Several of the scenes were interesting and very funny. Two that really stand out to me are:
Arnold’s Drive-In is a popular ptomaine palace along the main highway, due in no small part to the fact that it is the only one that is available and the health department has conducted no recent inspections. [:0] [:p]
As we enter the City of Sorry Vista, the Conductor calls our attention to a fire in the building that houses the Internal Revenue Service offices. We’re told that everyone has been safely evacuated from the building, and that the Fire Chief has called for a tanker
of gasoline to pour onto the fire instead of trying to put it out. [:D] [:D]
A little further down the hill we see a tank truck full of gasoline being given a police
escort as it heads toward the scene of the fire. (Now that is too funny) [:D]
Thanks for the ride, I really wanted to stop at the KFC though. [:p] [;)]
Bro. John [:)]
Time to see the Discovery channel program about the Japanese super subs from the end of WWII.
I would have loved to see the sub program. [:(] I don’t watch enough TV to pay for cable.
I have read that Germany also had develop
Good evening, Chloe, sorry [oops] for even suggesting you’d drive a Buell. I’m just popping in before I head off for bed, so something light, say a small dish of the orange sherbet, please.
ArkJim, to answer your sNoah question first, no sNoah here, but the weather guesser says we could have some light frost on the windshields in the morning. We tied the record low this morning at 32, and it looks like tomorrow’s temp may be a repeat. Yep, I liked the one about the police escort on that website tour. Funny thing was, about 15 years ago in the church where I was, we had an IRS auditor who was a member. He was a pretty nice guy, but our pastor (and others) would razz him whenever a Bible text on ‘tax collectors’ came up. Don’t know anyone from the church that he had to audit, but they might have some rule that you couldn’t audit people you knew, maybe.[;)]
Der John, do you have a worn out (preferably soft) old toothbrush? Using that, or an ultrasonic tank came to mind (though I’m not sure on what are the safely usable fluids for the ultrasonic tank). Let me know if you get suggestions that work, since I have an Athearn switcher and an F-3(?) that will need cleaning and stripping at some future point.
Flip, at our ages, it’s getting older or fertilizing the daisies. Hey, at least I knew one of the bikes was a Harley! [;)] Buell, huh? Where do they make those, anyway? Oh, you might appreciate a local event today (across the river at Bald Knob Cross in Illinois). They annually have the Blessing of the Bikes, and a lot of the bikers in this region come. Depending on when they left, might even have been some coming from the big rally that was mentioned.
Have all the pushpins out of the roadbed, so tomorrow night I can sand out any uneven spots and see about some tracklaying. [yeah] May get in the G.Roberts Printing Co. tomorrow if I’m lucky. Need to run the walls across a copy machine and use the copies to figure what type of building(s) I want to kitbash from it. <
Flip you haven’t been hording those issues have you[;)][:p][:D][:I][:-,] I have to say though that this is the first first birthday that I remember taking a part in.Der John thanks for posting that picture for me,I’m glad that everyone enjoyed it. Hopefully when I get the digital camera I can give you guys a few other shoys to enjoy. Matt I felt like you yesterday. Heather and I had a strenuos day with some new Ikea furniture. I also thought that you were in the store I parked in front of a Big red landrover discovery. Well I’m going back to the workbench and put another bit of paint on a coupleof new ''downtown" buildings. Later everyone. [oops] Before I forget [#welcome] Bill have a cup o joe on me. Later guy’s n gals Rob[:D]
Hi Gang,
I was going to thank each person for the welcome into the shop, but there were so many, that I’d just like to say thanks to all. You seem like a pretty good bunch.
Duke; you’re welcome to swing by any time. You don’t need reservations at my place.
We live 18 miles due west of Mio on North Down River Rd… 18 miles due east of Grayling and 18 miles south west of Lewiston. The associations location is called “Warblers Hideway.” If nothing else we can kick back, have a few pops around the fire pit, and spot the satellites going over. (I’m sure you know how clear a Northern Michigan night sky can be.) The best we’ve spotted, so far, is seven in a three hour period. By the time you say you’ll be in the area it’ll be warm, and the camp fire will get rid of any night chill. I don’t know how many will be with you, but we can make room for everyone to crash. My wife (Kitty) is the Greatest, so no problem. For more info, e-mail me at bnknmm@wnconnect.com
Most of the people in our association are older then us, but their great folks. (I was lucky enough to retire early.)
I hope to be showing some progress on my layout by then. To start with, I plan on using some of the boards that I tore out of my last place. The one before the last one was 18’x12’. It was being destroyed in storage, ( I seem to spend a lot of time in storage) when I decided that enough is enough. I found a “Boy Scout Troupe” in Livonia, that was into HO trains, and gave it to them. Oh man, you would think it was made of solid gold. It did my heart good to see the look on their faces. I love that wide eyed look kids get. Like Christmas morning.
Paul W. Beverung; Thanks for the offer on the bell, but I think I’ll try the web sites first, because there are other things that I want as well. Thanks again man, it was nice of you.
Thanks to those who gave me web the sites. I’m going to give it a shot tomorrow.
Man, I just reread this and
Jim - I believe you may have missed something - the photo is NOT of the “Shop” it is of “Our” Place - a bar & grill over on Classic Trains.
The HO kit is made by American Model Builders (152-145) and is called “NIne Mile House & Tavern.” This structure still exists and I have lunch there (and a beer or two …) from time to time. It’s about a 15 minute drive from me and is called “The Trainwreck Saloon.” Over the years, several modifications have been made to the appearance - but it still retains enough of it for me to “relate” … Kinda nice having a structure on my layout that has a real life counterpart close to home. A “classic” for sure!
I do have a couple of "bikers"on the layout … but they appear to be a bit more modern than the “period” calls for … thanx for the suggestion![tup]
Wx report: chilly - no, cold this morning - sunny and comfortable the rest of the day … tomorrow, who knows? This is Missouri!
See ya![tup][;)]

Evening all, large glass of Coke plenty of Ice with a large dash of Johnnie Black, actually hold the Coke and bring the bottle.
Five simple words “Cut away from your fingers” Just a recent observation that came to me during a period of enlightenment today after fitting a new blade to my hobby knife to trim some excess beading off the decking of the Pickle Factory… four Band-Aids generated sufficient pressure to stem the blood flow… [[#wstupid]
A huge weekend getting through the construction of several kits… finished the New River Mining, a General Store (yet to be named) and the now infamous Pickle Plant. Thanks to the advice gleaned from reading the forums and MR, all have turned out exceptionally good looking structures complete with preliminary rusting and weathering.
I haven’t seen the weathering chalks everyone raves about in any of the LHS, so I guess it is order and wait the wait… but until then they are finished…
The running out of track has certainly slowed down the layout progress and today being a public holiday it was certainly a wasted opportunity to fini***he loop(s).
I have to laugh when I hear constant references to snow and cold temperatures, I long for a cold day when I can actually wear a jacket… there are only a few each year and my jackets get so lonely in the mean time.
I see our friend has gone on a mental dead short again, but I fail to see how panning the Moderator is really going to have anything other than a negative effect [2c].
Anyhow, time to get the Machine shop knocked up before bed… work tomorrow, no MR for me [:P] until later in the week if I am lucky… GL HF
