The Coffee Shop (a place to chat) Est. 2004

Good evening every one, Chloe I’ll have a very large Mt. Dew at Ken’s table. Yeah, I know, it’ll keep me awake, but who cares? [:D]

[#welcome] 8500HP and RIRR80, and anyone else I may have missed.

Trent, great news about the tests. Thought I heard someone breath a big sigh of relief earlier.

NSengineer, I like the trailer hitch idea. I have an empty mounting bracket on my truck, it is very tempting, even though I never tow anything. It would be a great conversation piece. [:-,]

Spent the morning and afternoon on yard work. Trimmed a few tree branches so I wouldn’t knock my head off mowing grass, then mowed the grass. Did get a little work done in the train room this evening.
Also started an account on Railimages.com. Only a few pics of local 1:1 action at the moment but will post some of the layout when it’s started. Another one of those motivaters, I have the account so I have to get some work done to use it. It just takes so long to up load pics with dial up service. [:(]

Guess that’s about it for tonight. Will try to check in tomorrow when I get home from Mom’s place.

Good Evening clubbers!

Trent - thanx for the ice cream float, I can use one right about now - been a very busy day for me, getting ready for Mothers Day [another one of Those Holidays that forces us guys to be on our best behavior].

Jim - Sorry to see you got the bait n’ switch treatment at Penny’s. Seems like these stores only put a tiny number of the sale items on the shelf and they vanish after ~10 minutes. But lo-and-behold, there’s plenty of the similar - but pricier - items still available, and since you came all the way in there anyway you might as well buy them, right? Smart people, those marketing directors…[soapbox]

drJohn -

Sounds like you were having a Moment Of Rapture there, amigo![tup] May your good fortune continue…

J.R. - I was thinking of posting a Missing Persons thread on the GD for Turbo Tim, he seems to have vanished again.

Getting late, see you all tomorrow [probably after the Mothers Day festivities]!

Mother’s Day ain’t that the turth!! Since I’m laid up I can’t get the Lady a card! [:(!] [:(!][:(]
She’s a real
[angel] and I [bow] to her always being there for me especialy these last few weeks.
I’ll tahe her out some place special later and she said Ok.
I love all the layout pics!! They’re GREAT!!
Trent

Hey Teffy,
Have ya checked your e-mail yet? Ya want a cold one?
Trent

Hi Attaboy,

You must’ve just stepped out the door when I got in earlier. I hear ya about those low branches - I’ve almost been decapitated a few dozen times by those on my lawn tractor! Seems like those just above the ones I cut off always manage to dangle down low enough to be a pain in the ***…!

OK, let’s try this again: Good night…!

Hey Flip glad you enjoyed them.We do try our best, this weekend is the openning days for ys this year and the weathers been perfect, blue sky’s low 70’s [8D][8D][tup][:p]and lots of kids with big smiles on their faces.[:)]trent Great news there now with the health things out of the way hope you have smooth sailing the rest of the way with your coarse. Rob[:D]

Bob I’d love to swap you,the only problem is that we have the same time zone but the commute back and forth is a bit of a killer. My best advice to anyone ballasting is get yourself a small 1" trim brush, forget all the fancy smancy ballast machines they are a waste o money imho.Shake right from a jar or bag and use the bru***o level and shape the ballast. This is the biggest thing make sure you wet down then glue the heck out of it.For me elmers white glue is the best ballast glue out there, cheap and reliable. Well it’s late and we have Mother’s day festivities tomorrow, so if possible give all the mother’s in your life a squeeze and enjoy the day. Nite all[|)][zzz][zzz][zzz] Rob

Attaboy,

If you dont tow anything, that would be even better as it is just a decoration piece.
if you were to tow something you would have to take it out and put the one with the ball back in

Hi Luc come on over to the table while I go through the posts real quick before I leave for a ride.

Duke

Good morning everyone.

Today is indeed a very special day. This is MOTHER"S DAY, one of our daughter’s birthday and, equally important, VE day remembered.

I hope you take time to honour your mom, your wife/companion and all the moms in your family and extended families. Also please remember those who paid the ultimate price that we may enjoy our freedom today.

Happy MRRing

Morning to all and all so to all the MOTHERS that always seem to know what is best for us most of the time. [tup][tup]

ED

First,oh for the 68 and 84 Tigers now those were some teams. For the first time in a year with a club in the hands I shot a 53 on the front 9 and a 65 on the back. JIMCG-I did get a few of the traps and a little water as well but it is always that ONE shot that keeps you coming back.

Teffy-Very nice control panel and what is really nice,YOU can see it because some of these things are getting harder for the eyes to pick up. [^][:)][tup] That is nice the way you painted it because with use it won’t rub off.

Fergi-I was in the LHS yesterday to get some CA and I talked to a guy that Ray introduced me to and told him about the decoders you found and the warranty. He also works there and he told me that Lenz gives the same kind of warranty so that is two companies that back their products really well.

Well it is time to go and with that big yellow ball in the sky right now it will be a good day for a ride
Talk to you later

Duke

Darn! Just missed Florida Fil and Ken

Well next time

Today is FREEBIE Day. Bring the “Moms” and the coffee is on me!

***: Well it rained real hard last night but the good news is my drainage quick fix seems to have worked as I didn’t loose great gobs of top soil. Thanks for not sending us any snow!!!

Attaboy: That’s a great photo! Hopefully you’ll have more for us. Where was that taken? I just love the old bridges as to me they are a “Testament to Time”.

Paul: Sorry I missed you yesterday but I my thoughts were else where. to be honest I’m disapointed with the fact the RDC I was hoping for wasn’t there. I really don’t consider RDC’s as diesels, more like motorized passenger cars. I have lots of pictures of them being “towed” by steam engines.[:D]

Luc: I got your email and will give you a call this afternoon.

Duke: Yes I’ll be looking forward to see what these decoders can do. The price is right as I’m saving about $5 compard to the Digitrax. They also make a unit that is for HO but will easily fit in an N scale engine.

Trolleyboy re: get yourself a small 1" trim brush, forget all the fancy smancy ballast machines they are a waste o money imho. I couldn’t agree more with you though I would like to share some of my “Tricks of the Trade” with you. I’ll take a 8 1/2" x 11 piece of paper and fold it in half. I’ll then use it as a trough and fill it with bit of ballast. I then hold it over the track ar an angle and gently tap it as I’m “leading” it down the track. This way I don’t get too much in one spot. Regarding the school glue, along with the water I also add india ink and chocolate brown to give it the grimy effect.

Trent: I’m glad all has worked o

Good morning clubbers. Fresh pot of coffee almost empty. 2 loads of laundry done. Deb still sleeping. Beautiful day has dawned.
If you have RFD on your TV, check it out for 3pm. Two half hour shows today.
Again, Happy MothersDay to all. His blessings to all.
Flip

Nothing for me chloe just wanted to stop in and say Happy mothers day to you all who are mothers out ther have a blessed day time to got work (lawn work that is lol ) have a good day all

Just a quickie for Fergie, then I have to do the Mother’s Day thing.

That photo was taken at the west end of the Rockville Bridge, believe it or not. Lot of different motive power in this are these days.

Hi, RIRR80.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all you ladies. A tip of the hat and glass to all of you who have gone thru “that” [tup] [tup]

Have a great day! Willy

Hi all

Just got back from Bristol (now have 3 Dapol freight car kits to build). Weather variable but mostly dry.

8500HPGasturbine, welcome aboard. Can’t say I wish it was 2 years until I got my license - I can remember my pre-driving days and they weren’t anything like as much fun! Interested to read about the Mustang too - not often seen over here. The quickest cars on our roads are usually 4wd rally-bred machines like the Subaru Impreza Turbo and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. Best bet for power and economy is something with a 2L turbo diesel power unit in my experience - you’ll get a car that will outclimb pretty much anything, has ample overtaking power, and still returns near to 50mpg. Ferraris don’t handle the local terrain well (too many potholes, rough surfaces, etc)!

Ken, I know what you mean about low branches - every year or so we have to take a power saw to the trees along our drive so we can get the camper in and out without losing the rooflights or the aircon unit. The annoying part is that the branch you need to remove is always 6in higher than you can reach from the ladder you have…

Luc, agree about VE day - both my grandfathers were involved in WW2, one was a radio operator in the Navy, the other was in Army Bomb Disposal. It’s my main regret in life not having asked them about their experiences, though apparently neither was inclined to tell his war stories - too many memories attached I guess. I’ve heard a few interesting tales that relatives managed to prise out of them though - the Bomb Disposal one (dad’s dad) was at Dunkirk in 1940 and managed to get all the men under his command off the beach (he was a Captain). Amazing achievement when you consider the conditions!

Well, currently trying to figure out garden RR track plans - I’m looking at a giant loop line around one of our back lawns. Trains of more than 3 or 4 cars may well need helpers (it’s steep) but a pair of Stainz 0-4-0s wrestling with a heavy train (both with sound u

hi ya’ll coffee black please
good mudder days to all. we’er going out to mothers n my moms later today, they live bout 5 mile apart and we always end up making a day of it with the visten n all.
haven’t started to box up the layout yet. lodest girl called from ohio n said i couldn’t till her n the kids come back next weekend, then mother said i couldn’ttill after her old hen party in july . it might be fall now before i get started.

going up to matton next sunday for a train show n swap meet maybe i’ll find some turn outs i’ve been looking for. mothers hollerin bout what i been spenden on train stuff so i ahd to remind her of what she’s been spending on cake making stuff. i think she’s got 6 to do in the next 4 weeks she quit hollerin then
darn i long winded today, got more to say but gotta go.
laters mike
oh we down loaded that shutterfly program n still cann’t get it to past pictures but we’ll try again later

Good Morning, and a Happy Mother’s Day, Clubbers! Zoe, I’d like a plain coffee (black, no cream, no sugar, stirred, not… - oops, wrong story!), please. [;)] I may have an ice cream float on Mike (Inch53) after that.[:)]

Mike, that’s a tough one, sounds almost like half the family’s messing with your MRR schedule. Hope you find some nice turnouts at the train meet!

Bill, I was thinking of the (old radio?) bit about “Hello Mr. & Mrs. North & South America…” (and all the ships at sea, but we already have Fergie and Capt.Turk for that part [4:-)]). Never heard the one you mentioned, though. I’m with you, can’t figure out how that’s supposed to be funny. Ah well…

Hope our Northeastern denizens of the Shop are able to sit inside and wait the storm out (and maybe get some MRR work done! [yeah]).

Fergie, sounds like you got a good visit in with Si and Allen (and that he’ll have a fun ride on VIA). Also sounds like you gave them a good tour (especially since he got to see both the MESS and LHS - and he found something good to buy at LHS). Refresh me here, Fergie, a C-liner would be… (surely not! [:O]) a diesel??? [}:)] You keep that kind of stuff up, you’ll be corrupting our other steamers like CatTom and Teffy! [;)] Good to hear your work helped the water to drain off better. Mudslides in the yard are NOT any fun.

ftwNSengineer, Trent - congrats on another star! [tup] They accumulate almost as quickly as diesels on… (oh, never mind, might get myself in trouble).[:-^][:-^]

Der John, you’re getting to be a wiring wizard there! Probably not in the way you would have preferred - But sometimes the tougher lessons seem to teach me better, anyway. Glad you have it working now. Just shows we MRRers can out-stubborn any piece of electronics/electrical equipment, huh? [tup]

Good afternoon everbody, I see I am alone in the CS for the moment, I guess you guys are all doing the dishes for all the moms out there…GOOD JOB GUYS !!!
I just got back from my daughter’s house from a Mother’s Day brunch for the ladies, I was in charge of the scrambled eggs and OJ ( yes, your OJ Ed , fresh from your plantation, thank you mon ami, it was excellent as usual!!)

FERGIE: No one is any happier than I not to have snow, but areas around NE that were above 1500 feet DID get snow, and we had some wet flakes mixed in with the rain at the start. BTW, you mentioned growing “Curry” in your garden to keep the pests away, Curry is a mixture of several herbs, and is not a plant itself, but I believe you knew that.[;)]. A good friend of mine from India uses curry in many dishes, especially Curried Chicken and Curry Soup which is out of this world!![^] AND, some of the herbs that do make up Curry powder are indeed something that cats and dogs and other animals do not like at all, so check the herbs on the curry bottle and grow them in your garden.
He also told me that Curry “keeps things moving” also…he did not have to tell me that, it WORKS!!!

TRENT: You can take care of the little lady when you get feeling better, I am sure just having you OK was the best gift for her Mother’s Day…right guys?

MATT: It looks like you will be busy building kits for a while…and how is the new PC doing?

LUC: You are corrrect Luc, this is VE day and not many remember that. I sure can remember all the excitement around our house and town when the news broke. I was 6 years old at the time, but I sure can remember it like it was yesterday. My uncle Buddy was in the Battle of the Bulge, his entire company was nearly wiped out, he came home a changed person, and after two years admitted himself into the local VA hospital, and never came out, he is 82 now. May we never forget those who made it possible for us to be free
