The Coffee Shop (a place to chat) Est. 2004

Good afternoon, Zoe. (You do remember me, right? [;)]) I’ll have an orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream - a scoop of each. [dinner] Thanks, Darth! I appreciate that! [:)] Bill R., I believe I’ll come join you while I write a few posts here.

Goodness, but it seems like forever since I was here in the Shop[:O]. Not even going to try to catch up on all of the dozens of pages I missed, between being gone for the friend’s daughter’s wedding and then heading out to Belleville for the GATS there yesterday. I do believe that Ryan’s been in here more the past few weeks than I have! [:O][;)]

I was fairly impressed with the GATS at Belleville, but was disappointed at the lack of bargains - most of the tables only had stuff at 10 percent off (and we can get 2-3X that much off with our LHS/MRR club member). I saw some of the tables where it looked like they were jacking up the prices on Proto 2000 engines (because of the Walthers/LifeLike deal?). I did find a nice SP 50’ boxcar that is in great shape and has (Kadee?) couplers on it, for $6. There was one table (maybe two) that had lots of cars marked down, but none were what I was looking for (plus I had limited funds to buy with). Did see some more decent prices on some P2K SW9/1200’s, but had to pass for now. I also (since my layout is set in the later 1950’s) was tipped off by another club member (six of us rode up in one member’s van) and got two 1955 (or so) Chevy Bel Airs (one red and white, and the other that turquoise and white scheme that they had back then). The cars were $3 each. I also picked up that MRR mag issue with the article on making the warehouse on the curve - the one DerJohn told me about.

The hall was pretty crowded, which wasn’t that great. Most of us ate lunch there, then we finished up looking at the 1/3 of the show that we hadn’t seen yet and headed out to

Grubby

It just takes a little time and they start to see the light—kind of.

Ken
The track plan looks good and did you say it is a 2 car garage??

Yeah the snow thing will help get me in the basement and no 4wd motorbikes but I do remember see ads for a ski that you could put in place of your front tire on trail bikes.

RT
When I would come home from Dover on leave or a long weekend I remember seeing those signs and they were serious about it. I have seen the one with the cat before and it was good then as it is now.

JimCG
Sounds like the GATS was better there then it was here a couple years ago and that is why I didn’t go this last year. Did they have a lot of Lionel stuff because that is what it seems to be in this area but there was a bit of HO too.

Attaboy
I am giving some thought of going to Philly next year for the NMRA if you and maybe Ken and some others in your areas are thinking about it. It’s good to hear that you’re feeling better so it must have been the coming off vaca thing that was the problem.

Well that’s about it
Talk to you later

WHAT??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!O!!!O!O!OOO!!
OO!OO!!O!O!!O!O!O!!!O!O!!OOOO!!!O!OO!!!O!O!!! Oh, well.[sigh]

Well, I got the chassis on my Bowser Challenger almost painted. Then I realized there were still some detail parts to put on. Oops. I guess I can repaint it if any paint comes off. I still have to finish putting the detail on the boiler, but it’s getting hot and humid over here so I have plenty of time to put the parts on before I paint it.[:)]

Hey guys!

Well I have to get wire lift rings since i had detail associates plastic ones.
I also need a pin vise. Havent seen one before but I have heard lots about them.

ShaunCN Is that a wide cab SD38? I know a lot CN and CP engines had the comfort cabs which look really cool.

Not much going on here in NJ. I’ve been in a bad mood the past few days.

John

Yes “trained” is one way of putting it but I think “Anesthetic correctly administered” might be closer… she just rolls her eyes and says “whatever”… I like it when they get to that stage… numb and ready for the next “operation”

The joy and enthusiasm of my 6 yo son really helps too [:D]… he is my best agent.

GLHF

Jim - Thanks for the info. I’m going to build a 4’x8’ layout for my " N " scale, I was kicking around the idea of putting a HO layout on it. I’ve got more N locos and rolling stock than I do HO, and yes this will be my first layout. So I guess I will build the " N " scale here in the house, and if I ever get my garage finished I’ll put the HO in there. It’s just going to take a little time to do it. Now where am I going to put a layout for my 027 trains ?[%-)]

Everyone have a great evening.

Stan.

Hi Gang,

RailroadYoshi: I have as many as 25 of those miserable little Chipmonks in my yard at a time. If you really like them as much as you say, you’re more then welcome to take as many as you want!!![^]

Ken: RE: The cider mill ; As I remember, It’s on Baseline Rd. You have to turn West off of Griswald, go down and around a curve, and you’re there. I think.[%-)]

They do make winter Motor Cycles!!! We call them Snowmobiles. I have two just sitting and waiting for that first flake!!![;)]

Fergie: Welcome home!! Those were great pictures, but what kind of critter was that in the last photo. LOL [:D][:o)]

Jim: You mentioned “Boston Market Restaurants.” I used to really like that place when I lived down state. When the wife was going through a bad period, with her MS, I’d stop on the way home from work, to pick up a couple of meals. It would save time, and I could get a hot meal down her, without having to spend half the evening cooking. The work run was 60 miles one way, I had better things to do then cook all evening.

Well, I think I’ll go sit out on the front porch and see if any more Deer show up at the Turkey Feeder tonight. The Fawns are being wheened, and the Does are bringing them in for a bite of Turkey Corn.[:-^][:-^] I figure it’s OK since we don’t connect with them, so they don’t become tame. There’s no hunting allowed in my area anyway.

L

Just a quick return,

Trent: Thanks for the tip.

Hey Zoe,
I will take a slice of sweet potatoe pie. I brought my wife in to meet you all. She will have the same. Anyway, how is everbody doing? Hey Grubby, I have to talk to the CFO also about a possible mainline add on to our Union Pacific layout. Anyway I gotta tell you guys what she had done lastnight!!! I know it’s not a big thing, but it was GREAT to me!!! When you have your wife that did what my wife did it will bring tears to your eyes. Well she put together a UP-MAC90 that came apart from a crash. WITHOUT ANY HELP AND NO INSTRUCTIONS she put back together and it runs better now than before. Man, a wife that can do this, I’m I’m still chocked up. Anyway you guys take care and have a good week, I will be back on Wednesday!!
Mrs TrainsRMe says, thanks for the pie!

Chloe, a grapefruit and a granola bar for me this morning…

Hello gents,

Not much to report on, except that I spent a few hours tackling the trackwork. I probably could’ve got more done than I did, but I was obsessing over a roadbed problem. I’m trying to find a material that I can pour into gap areas, that will harden without shrinking or crumbling, and doesn’t cost $20 a pint. Finally I decided to put that issue on hold and finish laying the connection to the main line; the link shows where I’m at as of late Sunday afternoon.

Siddarth - I must have missed one of your earlier posts that explains this: Why are you packing up all your trains - moving, going off to college…?

Cape Jim – am I ever glad to see you, I thought maybe we had lost you to “other interests”[;)]!

I guess you’re referring to my ‘mill’ yard? I gotta confess, I didn’t do much extensive research when I came up with that design[:I]. I simply knew what kind of switching moves I needed to make and arranged the turnouts accordingly, cramming as much ‘parking’ capacity as my limited space would allow; it may not work for the experts but it works for me![:D]

Steve B – great to have you back, sounds like a really cool vacation you were on!

Good mornin’ y’all [C):-)]

The only trains I have ever seen a KB with was the cheapo brand, where they’ll last about a week, and then something will break. But maybe that was just the KB’s in Westminster, both of which closed when KB went through the money trouble. But, if I can help out, I’d be glad to do it.

KEN: That is one awesome looking track plan. That is going to make for some very interesting switching possibilities. I can’t wait to see what it looks like when it is finished.

Well, I’ll be heading out soon for the FINAL WEEK of Driver’s Ed, see y’all later.
