The Coffee Shop (a place to chat) Est. 2004

Uh oh. I hope you’re not one of those crazy drivers that will run red lights or race other cars. Remember to never try and beat a train. You will lose your interest in this hobby and most likely your life.[:0][:(][xx(]

Morning all…Zoe a large cup of coffee to go please.

der5997 - The N scale empire in the garage sounds good, but I better keep my HO trains. [:)] Got to go to work.

Have a great day.

Stan.

Good Morning ALl,
Regular coffee to go please Zoe. Lots to do again today. We don’t go back out til the end of the month, but I think it’s busier than it was in the thick of the schedule.
Have gotten some more done on the first section of the new layout - blocked in the riser and decline(sinker?) with plaster and sculptamold. Mocked up three different bridges where the two lines cross at an angle and don’t like any of them - may use a bodge they used on the NH where the shore line meets NYC by passing over a concrete box of a bridge with no other support structure. I may try that maybe with a plate girder over top for support. So much for now time to pick up tools. CUL, J.R.

Heh, you don’t have to worry about me. I’m an overcautious driver. I don’t want to wreck Mom’s van or my step-dad’s Marquis. And plus, Mom’s van is a limited edition model, so that would be very bad if I wrecked it.

Mom’s van wouldn’t win a race anyways, but the Marquis might with its 5.0 V8 Mustang engine, but it is probably too heavy…[:p]

I’m outta here, see y’all later.

Well my Boy! You’ld be suprised what you can do with a set of JATO’s!!![:D] If it works on a C-130 I’m sure it’ll work (with some tweeking) on a mini van.

Well not much else on the go, installed 2 decoders in my C-liners yesterday, they go like stink, for diesels that is, oh well what’s the world coming too?

Later Gents

Fergie

If you have more N scale stuff, I’d be inclined to agree with you, Stan. As for that O27 stuff, do you have a garage? You could always put the car out in the drive… [;)]

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hawks, Glad you found Duplainville alright, sorry for you that it was a little disappointing. The only time I’ve been there I was very unimpressed too, one train in an hour and a half. I still recommend it though, as many people say that it’s the best spot in Milwaukee. I actually doubt that I’ll ever want to go there again. Instead I’m going to try Oklahoma Ave, the one that the guy suggested in the thread you posted.

Der, Infra red sensors, I never thought of them! I don’t plan on using the optically idea until the next module I do, but I’ll have to keep this in mind until then.

Well, I played around with my design for my module a little more, I smoothed out the approaches to the turntable, ect. I’d like to maybe get a little bit of the track down today. That or start on building the turntable kit. I guess I’ll get going, give me a root beer in a to-go cup for the road!

Noah

Good morning, Zoe, I’ll have a couple of scrambled eggs with toast and blackberry jam, and a cup of coffee, please. [dinner] I’ll join Noah over there. Hey , Noah, are those your module plans you’re working on?

Duke, I’d put it at about 40-40 Lionel and HO, and a mix of N scale and other stuff (quite a lot of P2K stuff, and as I mentioned, some of it what seemed overpriced to me). The Boeing show in St. Louis in Sept. (10th) at the Queeny Park building may be a better setup. Some of our club members last night at the meeting were saying the layout of the tables got in the way of looking at stuff, and that the Boeing club’s show was better (since they just have straight lines of tables, and better aisle space between). I had been to a Boeing club show (back when it was still McDonnell-Douglas), and recall seeing more things I wanted to get than I had money for (duh, what’s new about that, huh?[;)])

Inch, better be saving up some energy once J-Bird gets that cast off her! [(-D] Good to hear she’ll be back up to playing like usual again (not that I expect the cast slowed her down toooo much).

TrainsRMe, you have one exceptionally great wife - better hang onto her! She actually sounds like she’d be a pretty good MRR’er in her own right. [#welcome] Mrs.TrainsRMe! No telling how much progress the two of you could make on a layout working

Good Morning!

Well, as long as Bill North is paying, I’ll have a tall cup a hot coffee and an order of [C=:-)]French toast with hot maple syrup! And how about a few sausage links on the side!

Well the drive into work this morning was through a torrential downpour, and the wipers were on full throttle, my door even leaked. Going to have to fix that, my left pants leg was soaked. Luckily I had a towel to wipe up the leak.

Scott,
[^][^][^] Congratulations on your 1,000 post! Awsome!!!
Good luck with the job-hunting, amazing how a few hours of paper work will make you want to take a break!

Fergie,
It is a whole other world out there, huh! I’m sure if those canoes were tied up down here at the municipal harbor or on the Mississippi river the patrol would be out in short order to take inventory of those guns.

Slight correction, this ain’t no minivan. You see, my Mom owns a 2001 Chevy Express LT, on a 2500 chassis, with a V8 Vortec engine. Honestly, it is a truck, not a van.
It is fun to drive, and it is luxury on the inside. And being limited edition, I don’t want to do anything to it; other than add some airhorns.[}:)]

I turned in my work applications today. My chances have been reduced to seven places, instead of eight, since the Sunglass place wants someone over 18. Black and Decker looks promising, and I have a good feeling about Bose as well. I WANT TO SEE THE EXPENSIVE STEREO STUFF![:D]

Zoe, I’ll have a coronary bypass special and a Pepsi to go…

Hey guys,

I have had basically zero time for railroad-related activity in the last 36 hours, because I am in the process of migrating a corporate database from one server to another. It’s not something where you can simply copy a few folders from the old machine, “plunk” them down on the new one, and walk away – it’s a lot more complicated than that, and one of the highest-stress tasks that a professional computer geek might have to do. Monday was a 12-hour day of preparation, and today has been [so far] 8 hours of fielding trouble calls related to the move. If I’m lucky I can be out of here by 4 and perhaps get some more track laid this evening…(?)

Thanx Scott, I can’t wait either…and that’s a major problem if I want to do this thing properly![swg]

TEFFY -

No they’re just plain ol’ Atlas #6’s. I’m connecting these first, so I won’t have to tear up any other track later. Of course I might have to settle for a little less length when it comes time to lay the other yard tracks…

Interesting, I’ll have to try that…

I JUST GOT A CALL FROM KB TOYS! I have a job interview tomorrow! So, I am almost gauranteed a job now! And if nothing else, at a store that was closer to the top of my list! Yeah, if I do work there, I hope they have trains during Christmas![:D]

Afternoon all and Zoe before you leave for shift change how about a very big Rootbeer float and put it on Bill N’s tab since he is buying.

John
All of these kids in the CS are good aren’t they with the ideas they have come up with and my hat is off to them. [^][tup][yeah]

Bill N

Yes you do have a point there, just could never really get into snowmobiles and we sure do have it all. BTW did you get my last Email???

Scott Good luck with the app’s and hope you get a good one.

Darth I don’t think we would have to worry about him racing a train except to get to a place where he could get some good pics.

Fergie JATO would do the trick alright. Got a ride in an old C-123 that had JATO and what a ride it was on take off[:D][8D][:)][wow][yeah]

JimCG

I was just wondering because I was disappointed in the last one I went to here and that was about the same mix.

Ryan

That kind of bid is from someone that has way too much money and doesn’t know w

SCOTT hope you get the job, good luck [tup]

There was a guy who put JATO’s on a car, he’s very dead now, he hit a mountainside about 100 ft from the road and left very black skid marks on the road as he tried to stop it, to no avail of course as brakes don’t work on an airborn car[xx(][:O][angel][oops]

Hey KEN pull up a chair and we’ll have a drink

Afternoon all… Havn’t been in for a couple of days… How about a diet coke and some onion rings… Been just running trains and day dreaming… Wish I had more room… Got a Snckers Round house reefer kit I got off Ebay yesterday It will be my first try at a N scale kit… darn this stuf is small…Got to go have a good one… Cox 47

This morning I found out that the replacement gear in my dad’s old Life-Like mogul was too small, making it slip and jump around the track and grinding when it was pulling 2 or more cars. I put a spare Athearn gear in there and put thin spacers between the axle bearings and the frame and now it works well enough to run.[:D] The Athearn gear was a little large for it. That’s what the spacers are for.

Oh,Oh. Teffy just called three minutes ago. Talking to Deb right now. I’ll be back, maybe ? tonight or tomorrow.
Flip

Fresh pot of coffe, please Zoe. Drinks on me all. Whatever you desire.
