THE FLAT WHEEL CAFE AND DINER MAY EDITION

CW; glad to hear you are done with the rehab excersizes. Sometimes they hurt worse than the ailment. I’m getting over a knee operation { ripped ligament} an out patient procedure. No kick ball or football for this old hide . I would like to send this bad wind storm of 2wks. to blow your rain away. [(-D] I’ll get a piece of apple pie with a coffee for now . Have any kind of evening you want [swg]

Jim

Congratulations Sarah…That’s quite an achievement.

Well, for those of you that are awake, coffee and hot water for tea is on. there is an abundance of Derby Mud Derby Pie left from last evening on the Warmer Bars.

At the house, we have right at 2and 1/2" of rain in the rain gauge here. That’s since yesterday morning. Still expecting some more.

Willy, please turn off the rain!! (in this locale anyway)

Squirt 17, Truck 3 and Rescue 2 just got hit on a possible water rescue at 15th and Oak Sts here;

(about 10 blocks from the house)

Thats the underpass at the Paduach & Louisville’s yard., seems somebody decided to drive throuh the high water there! No shortage of Idiots around here when things like this are concerned.

Morning all! Walt, thanks for breakfast! Congrats to Sarah![tup]

Went and got groceries yesterday. Boy did it pour! We have 2 and a quarter inches since we last checked!

Have a good day all!

Justin

Good Sunday morning, everyone.

  1. Walt, thank you so very much for letting me sleep in this morning, and fixing breakfast for us all. I appreciate you, Joe, Dan, Tom, Ray, etc., who give me a much need helping hand around here.

  2. Yes, Congratulations to Sarah, for getting your Blue Belt in Jiu Jitsu! You have worked very hard to achieve that, and I know you’ll be able to go on and achieve your other belts!

Cannonball, hope your knee is completely healed very soon! Take care of yourself!!

Just heard on the news that 9th & Oak is closed due to the high water in that area. It is just north of the P&L overpass. "[:-^] “Rain, rain, go away, Come again some other day” [:-^]

Everyone have a good morning, stay as dry as possible (if you’re getting rain), and take care.

Sarah - congrats! (Muggers - beware!)

Beautiful day yesterday until it rained while I was out directing traffic at an accident (I’m dry now). Nice out this Sunday morning, but the radar seems to be promising we’ll be getting some rain later in the day.

We had a nice luncheon for our RR volunteers. The signal maintainer had a problem to deal with - a telephone wire had apparently moved ever so slightly since last year and was causing the gates at the adjacent crossing to drop repeatedly. That got fixed for the moment, but the gates were out of service when the train left after dinner, so we had to flag the crossing. It was a short train…

Long list of projects for the day (including washing the sheets and getting them out on the line to dry in the fresh air before it rains), so I better get going!

Larry, I’ll pass along your Congrats to Sarah as she’s on her way to Atlanta for this next week, she’ll be at the CSX’s “Ready Center” doing some extra training for them.

Your comment on 'Muggers Beware" is very good; she just started Jiu-Jitsu just over a year ago, but is a Black Belt in Karate. (we don’t spar too much around here, I don’t like being on the floor all the time!..and I have some training also.)

Just checked the rain gauge right after Sarah got on the road for Atlanta; had checked it at 0 Darkthirty and it was showing about 2 and 1/2"; now it’s showing just under 4". We had a pretty hefty shower after CW’s last post.

Well, I see that CW just got credit for that last post, I was signed in under my screen name, how come it showed up as her posting?! Kalmbach People, when you got new servers, you really didn’t take care of all the problems that people have had with this Forum.

…Those are big number in rain gauges…Here, I checked this morning and it shows just .9" for the past 2 days total…! Still warm here and just a very, very fine mist.

Well, I’ve been busy in the kitchen, preparing our Sunday Dinner:

  1. Roast beef w/potatoes & carrots, green beans, whole kernal corn, fresh garden salad and fresh-from-the-oven dinner rolls

  2. Pork chop abracadbra, broccoli w/cheese sauce, cauliflower w/butter sauce

As an FYI, we have an anniversary coming up in here Wednesday. Our 6th(?)anniversary of being around here. Amazing that jhhtrainsplanes started this as the Depot Diner and Coffee Shop on my birthday, and made me the chief cook. It just doesn’t seem like it’s been that long ago.

Well Quentin, Just checked the Rain Gauge; and it’s showing almost 5"…that would be from yesterday morning until now. (and it’s still sprinkling here now.)

(We’re about 70 degrees here now, not sure what the high was for today)

Sarah is now in Atlanta for a week, doing some training at the CSX ready center…she called back here when she was just south of Nashville on Interstate 24 saying that she got diverted off the Interstate onto U.S. 41 due to high water. Seems that area got hit very hard on rainfall.

She is now safely in Atlanta.

We would check the rain gauge, but it’s full of SLUSH.

Can’t plant any tomatoes or peppers outside yet…'Da Boyz got their walk shortened. Gus would like to have a few words (growls?) with Willy’s local counterpart.

Walt, I was wondering about Sarah…I noted you said she started to Atlanta I believe it was yesterday and hearing of the terrible situation on I-24 and I-65 south of Nashville, we wondered if she made it thru ok…That was a massive weather front to produce 13.5" of rain in the Nashville area. Figures I heard in the past hour.

We just got a very brief hard rain here several hours ago and it was from one of the outer fingers of that system. Believe it’s all past us now. To be 75 and sunny tomorrow.

Good Monday morning, everyone. Well, it looks like our rain may be over! Hopefully! According to what I’ve heard on the news this morning, our official reading on the rain is 5 inches. Current temp is about 63 degrees, going for a high in the mid 70s, I believe is what I heard.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, cantaloupe, kiwi and papaya.

Hmm, where are Joe and Mookie?!?!?! I haven’t seen them in here.

Sarah called again last night, around 10:30. She was getting ready to fix something to eat, and head for bed and sleep! She’ll be on 2nd trick this week, so maybe she’ll be able to sleep in this morning.

Everyone enjoy your breakfast, and have a good morning. If anyone has any requests for lunch/supper, just let me know.

Hello Americans, it’s Monday! 72 degrees and cloudy in Carolina, with a projected high of 82 and thunderstorms for the next 2 days.

Local media is reporting that the sheriff of Lee County, next door to us, was busted along with 6 others by the FBI and State Law Enforcement Division for selling Cocaine. It’s sad that someone entrusted with law enforcement uses his position to breake the law. It was widely scuttlebutted some years ago that some of the local narc officers were dealing, but nothing ever came from it. For some years, I was a state constable until I got disgusted with the whole rotten house of cards and gave it up. End of soapbox.

Thanks for breakfast, and everyone have a safe day

Wet here today - but that’s not a bad thing. And I have plenty of indoors stuff to do. Off to do them!

Had an interesting day yesterday, but too tired last nite to report in. Saw a ballast train, a truck with weed killer behind it on the rails (not spraying), lots of freight, lots of coal and the grand finale - a freight with 24 windturbine motors headed west.

MC - happen to know where they might be headed?

Also heard that Matt Rose and Warren Buffett may be in our town on Wed this week. Anyone else know any details?

Well, gee. I ran out of news pretty fast. Off to make some more. Will look for Joe while I am out there. Might have to reach out and paw for him…

Well, 50 and sunny here in Burlington this morning, going up to about 70 later. Got the second pallet of block installed yesterday (I cleaned out Home Depot of gray retaining wall block!), once we get all the fill and some grass in, it will look very nice. Dad and I also decided that we are done with retaining wall block for a while, we set 5000lbs of block in two days.

Was up early this morning, so set about assembling a package of six Sergent Engineering scale operating couplers. All I can say is those parts are TINY!! Especially the little ball bearing that locks the knuckle closed. So far, I am impressed with these couplers enough that I think I will convert to them, will probably order a bulk pack of them later, as well as some shelf couplers, both type E and F.

Well, will take some breakfast, then off to work on the layout some more…

Mooks: Wind turbine motors are probably headed for eastern WA or OR. Probably were GE units. What little activity in new wind farms there is, is in the Pacific NW or Canada.

Black thumb was probably DeAngelo Bros. spraying the spots where the spray train is not going this spring…under bridges, road x-ings, buildings, etc. Sorry, the CO/NE asparagus barrier will be left untouched.

Jen…I saw Warren {live}, with Becky Quick on CNBC this morning. It looked like they were doing the interview in a plush railroad dinner. Isn’t Omaha UP headquarters. So we know for sure he is in Nebraska as of this morning. She seems to be with him a lot during finance programs and interviews.
