Welcome to The Freehold Pub!
Under new management, the Freehold Pub is the place for you to go to relax and talk
off topic about almost anything except for certain topics such as politics, religion and firearms.. Though those topics may be interesting, they tend to become very contentious, very quickly, and we are a community of friends despite our potentially diverse opinions. Consequently, any discussions that seem to be contentious should be “taken outside” (via PM).
Those entering should remember that we are here due to the generosity and tolerance of Firecrown’s owner and staff, and as such, this is not a place for insults or discord, but the equivalent of a coffeehouse where opinions can be shared and camaraderie developed. (Old curmudgeons and young whippersnappers equally welcome!!) Smile often, and post long and often when you like… but no gratuitous flags, please!! If you disagree with something… PM first.
Come in and hang for a while. All are welcome, but this place may not be for the faint-hearted…

If Buddha were a libertarian, what would his edc be?
I’ll liken coming here to entering the food chain: read the room or you might be devoured.
I just hope folks adhere to ALL the rules that were reached by consensus.
The Freehold Pub represents a last ditch effort to try to engender more participation in the Trains forum. Let’s see how it goes the next two weeks which is a period that should be free of interference.

Thank you very much–I probably spent way too much time on it (especially the swoosh), but it was worth it!

My wife and I are going to a conference in DC towards the end of July. We normally make a mini-vacation out of it. She has really gotten into quilting so we decided to spend the night in Lancaster. I figured she could visit the Amish quilt shops and I could tour the RR Museum of Pa. We would be there on a Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. Guess what two days the RRMPA is closed. Yep, Monday and Tuesday. Just my luck! Does anyone with local knowledge know if it’s worthwhile to see what’s there from “across the fence”? I’m mainly interested in the old PRR steam locomotive collection.
I’m not altogether sure all the ‘collection’ is fenced in.
I think you should at least try contacting the museum and see if someone can arrange to let you in for an hour or two the day you’re there – you know what the hamburger plan is, right? Even if you just go around the stored items, it’s worthwhile…
It occurs to me that you could ask to get in the Old Rivets cab and document the sort of GG1 details that keep getting asked about but it’s never enough… we could make a little list, ja?

For me I’m debating on fighting with the crowds next month to see 4014 run down the old Chicago and Alton about 2 miles away. Yes she’s the biggest thing running but man the crowd. I remember what they were like at Rochelle last time.
Is it not worth it because you can’t see the locomotives or because they are in crappy condition?
There isn’t much to see, and i don’t know how it is with the roundhouse construction. You could see the PRR mountain and maybe 1 or 2 others.
