I caught this Clint Eastwood, Lee Von Cleefe classic last night and was wondering what’s up with the 2 axle rolling stock? Where did they dig this stuff up from? It looks like European equiptment.
That happens when you shoot movies in Europe -
Here’s a quote from “dvdreview.com”
Most of those early Clint Eastwood movies were made in Italy, hence the term “Spaghetti Western”…
LC
I suspected that might be the case.
All the outdoor scenes in movie were said to be shot in Spain, with interiors, pickup shots and post production in Italy. Remember the giant Civil War fight over the bridge? The troops on both sides were reported to be Spanish soldiers “enlisted” as extras.
Leone’s spaghetti westerns were filmed mostly in Spain I think.
AFAIK, part was shot in Yugoslavia.
BTW, in “Cincinnati Kid”, the old stud poker player who beats the kid steps down from an ATSF-train in New Orleans. Quite unusual.
Hi
I think Winnetou was filmed here in Croatia, but I didn’t know any other westerns were filmed here.
Well anyway, it was filmed in Lika, a part of Croatia where Tesla was born and lived as a child.
I pass that area whenever I go on summer vacations.
A very backwards part of the country, I wouldn’t be suprized if people in some willages there still live like people did on wild west, well not literally, but…
Electro,
I am a big fan of Nikola Tesla and have built many Tesla devices. But here in America most people have no clue who Tesla was or how much he contributed to the technical advances of many fields. Tragic, as some of his concepts and inventions are advanced even for this day, some hundred odd years later.
If I ever have the chance I would love to visit the Tesla museum (in Belgrade I believe). Have you ever been there?
Hi
Nope, I haven’t been in Belgrade, at least not yet.
Since there was a war going on between Serbia and Croatia in early 90’s, needless to say you couldn’t just take a plane and go to Serbia, nor would that be a very good idea, and after the war it took quite a long time for the tension to loosen up.
That’s what you get when people take wars personally.
And as for me, I never had anything against anyone, I’m just glad it’s over.
USA also fought a war against Serbia for a short time, but unlike us barbarians, people in USA for the most part don’t fight wars on an emotional level.
Today, people travel between Croatia and Serbia on a regular basis, but I still haven’t been in Belgrade. If I ever go, I might visit the museum.
And as for Tesla, yea, he was quite a guy. He was really ahead of his time, and really worked for the good of humanity. He had little personal gain (aside from the money spent on his projects he was quite poor), even rejected a nobel prize.
If you haven’t already, check out Once Upon A Time In The West. It focuses more on the railroad. It’s still all Spani***rains, but at least it’s more trains. If you can find the special edition DVD theres a 5min documentary on railroading in the Old West and on the roll the train plays in western movies.
mmmm spaghetti…
