The Homewood, Illinois Deadline

Hi everyone,

A friend and I headed out to Homewood this morning and we photographed the deadline, which consists of many WC’s. Here is my photo. I hope that you all enjoy it!

Take care everyone.

It is sad when a railroad goes down. At least we have our memories, and a few pictures. Did you need special access to the yard to take the photo below? I may head down there with my cameras early next week.

Hi Poppa_Zit,

There’s a CN office building across the street. Last time my friend accessed that spot, he was told that they don’t mind, unless you’re there for a long period of time. I’m not 100% sure if it’s part of the yard, though. Homewood is a really nice spot! There’s lots of rare power. There are also many yard movements.

So they are no longer using those engines? I wonder how much they could sell them for?

Gabe

Hi Gabe,

You are correct that they are no longer running. Unfortunately, they are waiting to be scrapped by CN. They’ve been sitting in that deadline for months, though. I guess CN just doesn’t have the time to get to them.

Nick

the office building accross the street is the dispatche center for the entire railroad. Those tracks held the Algoma Central F units for over a year also. I doubt they are to be scrapped. Usually the shop writes MT on the fuel tank for those engines.

If by dispatch you mean company affairs ok … but if you mean Rail Traffic Control … CN has 3 offices in Canada for that as well …Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal.

They have already begun to scrap some of these units.
