Here’s how it works:
Part 1: Think of a sentence using model railroad terminology that if said to someone outside the hobby, that person would think you were speaking n toungesor crazy.
eg. The wheelsets on my 2-8-0 are clipping my frogs and shorting out my power block. I know iit one’s easy, but I not one to be politically correct. I’m more of a dothingy, thing-a-ma-bob, whatcha-ma-call-it kind of guy.
This goes back about 40 years, but my model railroad buddy & I used to joke about “installing the M.E.W. derail”. (it sounds like m e w d rail)
The gonger on that SD40 is sure he is running into open points.
There were 4 trains that were coming to a yard. They all had just enough time on their hours of service to make it into the yard. The Asst. Trainmaster lined up a plan to get them all in the yard. Before the trains got to the yard, a switchman got something in his eye and the ATM had to take him to the hospital.
After checking in the switchman, the ATM called the yard from the pay phone in the Emergency Room waiting room. The ATM asked how things were going. The yard said that all the trains had hogged short of the yard. The comments of the ATM went something like, “What do you mean they all died? They weren’t supposed to die for another 15 minutes! Have you sent anybody out to drag them in?”
At this point the ATM noticed everybody in the room was staring at him.
True story.
