The New Hobbytown of Boston

Today, I received a updated e-mail from Nick De Benedetto, owner of Hobbytown of Boston of New Jersey.

This is the firm, which is re-releasing the old Hobbytown of Boston Locomotive kits, which are are being manufactured in the United States of America, with the exception of the electric motors.

Take a look at there web-site.

I wish him success. The name is a bit awkward.

The new company’s name is Hobby Town of Boston, incorporated and operateing in the State of New Jersey.

I’m a fan…built many of what they produced around 40 years ago, and still run some…though heavily modernized. Us old dinosaurs still have an affinity for other dinosaurs…at least I do.

My best of luck for the continuance of this fine product…and produced here.

It’s been a long time since I built a Hobbytown locomotive. I still have some of them. Most of my remaining Hobbytowns are drives which repowered locomotivefrom other manufacturers.

Here is an old photo of Hobbytown PA1’s I built and painted.

Because we are Baby Boomers and or Pre-Baby Boomers.

Hope he veiws this more as a hobby. In their day they were really great, but that day has passed.

I’ve been told it takes some work to get a Hobbytown drive really right… but I’ve seen them in action, and they are quiet and will pull your teeth out of your head.

After Christmas, I am contemplating buying their power chassis ( one motor driving two chassis ) along with Alco PA bodies. I might use the empty ‘B’ unit for batteries.
