The roads on the Franklin and soutmanchester RR

Hello guys, happy new year from Belgium.
Well, about the roads on the FSM I known Mister Sellios used in the begining of construction Durnham Putty Hard to make his roads and streets.

I learned on a topics, but I didn’t remenber where, he now use a new product easier to use but with the same result.

Did anyone know something about that, I used myself some kind of putty of plaster, but cracks appears some time after, espescialy with the wood base of the layout.

So if you can help me it would be kindly.

Marc

Marc,

I don’t know the answer, but I’m thinking it might be the road products that are available from Woodland Scenics.

http://www.woodlandscenics.com/

Do a search at their web page on “Road” and you will get a list of the products they offer.

FWIW, on my former layout I mixed Z-scale ballast with white glue making a peanut butter consistancy and used it for a parking lot. I was extremely please with the result.

Hope this helps . . .

I went to George Sellios layout last year and it was ok. I donot like that depressing era. It just had that gory feeling to it. But overall it was constructed very nice. as for the road system I think you should just go ahead and get used to the smoothit product. It actually works very very nicely and you will be happy with the results. Have you ever used it befefore? Its real easy and clean too.

I have used a product called Scalecrete.Works great, but I haven’t seen thier ads in some time now.I don’t know if they are still in business.I’m away from the layout room, but if you’re intrested,I could get the info later

Yes, I’m pretty sure Scalecrete is still being made. I think I saw something about them in a recent issue of Model Railroader.

As for roads, I’ve heard of good results using the AMI roadbed and that’s what I plan on using on my N scale layout.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

I have try a product used in the molding buisseness to make retouch of the molding parts . Its come like a white powder mixed with water and dry very hard. It absord water colors like plaster and is very fine. No craks appears even on a wood base. The only problems its the price 20 euros for one kilogramme, but you can make miles with this quantity.
