My MILW. terminal caboose I scratch built, taking dimension from an actual caboose that the ETRR has on their roster. They let me climb all over it and take any dimensions I needed. I did a “build” thread in the old forum.

I started this depot last year. It’s based on the union depot of the Nickel Plate and the Cincinnati Northern at Latty, Ohio in Paulding County. I’m making everything from 65 lb cardstock measuring and cutting everything by hand. It’s for my small (5 x 7) O31 and Lionel Standard Gauge 3-rail layout so I’m not 100% worried about accuracy and perfection. I built the concrete coaling the previous year using a La Choy Chow Mein Noodles can and plastic canvas for railings and ladders. The waterway is supposed to be the Ohio and Erie canal and I will scratch build a couple of concrete bridges for that.

This layout is dual use and this is what it looks like right now.

Thanks! I took the depot out of storage today so I can start working on it again.

I have mostly trim work to do.

This brings up a question.

I cut the chimney cores from square stock, basswood I think. What I’m having trouble figuring out is how to produce a brick texture in the wood. I was thinking of using a spent ballpoint pen but even that seems a bit large for 1:48 mortar lines. Any suggestions would be welcome!

@pennytrains
Both of the projects I showed were set aside for a bit.
The bridge was set aside for a bit as I misplaced the deck framework! (It was built backwards to a prototype bridge. The deck was built first and then the supports.)
The kitbashed building was also built in stages as my budget allowed and part of the building was built when I lived in North Dakota and it moved with me when I returned to Montana and it was finished here. The letters for the sign were obtained from a job I had in ND at the time.

A wood burning tool, such as a wood burning pen, would be ideal for this purpose. You can find them at a lot of stores like Michaels.

My grandson David’s suggestion of a layout gas station and researching Route 66 icons led to this fav scratch-build.

Peter, you never cease to amaze me!

That light blue walls, darker blue ceiling with it, is really something, as the match the sign!

That black Pimp our ride, with the white top up by the corner, ain’t nothing to sneeze at either👌

Just think you should have brought the red and white Starsky and Hutch Gran Torino into it😎

A real toe curler indeed.
