Very interesting movie to watch.Anyhow anyone else see this movie?
Never heard of it until you mentioned it, but it does look like an interesting movie. Patricia Clarkson went to the the same high school that I attended in New Orleans, and I realy like her acting too, so I might have to check it out for those reasons as well.
Cheers,
Ryan
Very enjoyable movie. Some of it was filmed at the Newfoundland train station in NJ.
Yes I have seen it. Watched it once quite a while ago, need to watch it again. Seemed like an enjoyable but off-the-beaten-path kind of movie. Like was said, “interesting.” Thought the plot was going in one direction…and didn’t really go where I was expecting, if I remember correctly.
I never even heard of it until I saw this post.
I’ve seen it too, interesting/off beat are good descriptions.
It’s is easy to “connect with” the main character because he is a train enthusiast as we all are. The film has interesting character studies. Station agent, Emperor of the North, and that Jimmy Stewart-Audie Murphy-D&RGW movie I can’t recall the name of this moment, are my favorite railroad movies

Night Passage is the name of the movie I couldn’t remember. Great scenes, particularly when Jimmy sings “Follow the river…” I understand he really could play the accordion.

I very seldom watch any movie more than once, but I have watched this one a couple of times. A nice offbeat story with a terrific cast of characters. And some really very funny one liners.

I didn’t like the Station Agent at all. The acting was overall fairly good…but Patricia Clarkson was very annoying, at least to me.
Many of my friends said hey you like trains, you’ll love this movie. Turned out I hated it. But to each his own. I really enjoy most independent type films but this one just didn’t mesh with me. Seeing as all of you liked the movie, I wonder why it rubbed me the wrong way?
My favorite movies with trains in it are Silver Streak (1976 version), and Emperor of the North.
I can relate with not meshing…Many people like the movie Fargo.I found it annoying and almost painful to watch.
The Independent Film Channel sometimes airs The Station Agent.
Direct tv channel 550.It was on a few weeks ago.Every now and then they have shown The Color of a Brisk and Leaping Day,about a railfan who attempts to save a dying railroad.
“It was a very long tunnel”
OK ya had to see the movie to get that one…but it was a very good movie for me too. [tup]
PS Fargo? [xx(] [tdn]
Very funny line

We saw it a few years ago, when it first came out, on a recommendation from a friend who had seen it previously. Basically we enjoyed it. BTW, those who have seen it know there is some brief footage inside a hobby shop early in the film. I did know (but have forgotten) where, but it is a real hobby shop somewhere in New Jersey. Newfoundland is a real station, on the NYS&W. There’s also a very brief scene of a Morristown & Erie train.
One byproduct of the film is that it brought the actor — sorry, I forgot his name — who plays the principal protagonist of the film to the attention of the acting profession; and a couple of years later he did a stint playing Shakesperare’s Richard III in an off-B’way New york production. (For those who have not seen the film he’s a dwarf, and of course Richard III was one of history’s most famous dwarfs).
I didn’t like it either. Very well made film, but the main character came across as very unlikable to me.
