The wreck mentioned in this story was July 22 1956. 22 injured but fortunately no fatalities. The train had a 4 unit F7 set 46C-46B-46A-46L (A-B-B-A )all of which were repaired after the accident

Thank you for providing the link to the accident report.
For me, it was an interesting read, both from the RR point of view, but also because I worked in the Oil & Gas industry in the '70’s and '80’s. I am familiar with the location where that equipment was eventually destined. That was a serious boom time up in this part of the world, and I can see how the demand for more equipment might have driven people at the loading point to not have been as thorough as they should have been.
This was an interesting exercise. I would like to see Kalmbach make a link to the ICC report part of the permanent archive of the story on the Classic Trains website.
