I can furnish you with hotspots in Calif/Nev/AZ/Ore/Wa as there is where I do my railfanning even though I live in Florida. Look up Cajon Pass for starters. [:p][:o)]

I’ve heard that Cajon and Tehachapi are great places, and are place I hope to go soon. I was going to head out to Apex, NV when I was in Vegas in MArch but our rental car broke down! Hopefully next time I’m out there (maybe this fall).

For mountain railroading Stevens Pass from Skykomi***o Winton. The double track from Seattle to Portland is always busy if you want to see lots of trains. Between Seattle and Tacoma UP is separate from BNSF, south of Tacoma UP is on BNSF.
Unique spot is Carkeek Park on north side of Seattle. It gets you to BNSF main right on Puget Sound. Be careful here as line is busy two track main. Do not hike along the tracks.

Yes in N Tacoma where the BNSF yard is. Their is a ped bridge over the tracks that lets you see right down on the action. I saw trains being made up, interlocking as well as thru trains. Not much speed though. It is a couple of blocks west of the A/trak station their. Just before the underpass make a right go over the tracks then a very, very quick left & follow that street a tad & you are their. I did not do any rail fanning in Seattle proper. I would suggest you also contact Kennco I am sure he will clue you into other hot spots up there. [:D][:)]

To bad on Vegas I will be there in Aug myself. If you want a super place their try Wyoming Ave. You can get shots of the UPRR with the Stratosphere in the background. There is also a neat interlocking their 3 tracks merge into 2 & you can see it all from public land. [:p][:)][:D]

spbed- I’ll have to try Wyoming Ave next time I’m out there. I lucked out and got to see some trains roll through just off of Freemont Street so all wasn’t lost on the trip though. And as always I had a lot of fun in Vegas! Thanks for the Seattle info as well

Wow is that a fact about the fences? That is terrible if correct as the shots you can get of trains & scenery in the gorge was a real treat. Oh well there is always the overlook in Hood River so I guess that will become one favorite place with railfans.
