Thinner for Accu-Paint

I purchased a couple of bottles of Accu-Paint, in hopes of matching the paint on the new Athearn NYC rotary plow as closely as possible (for use on a support train of company service cars). No one seemed to have the thinner in-stock, so I called and ordered a pint directly from Accu-Paint. A gentleman took my order over the phone, but that’s been several months ago. No thinnner ever turned up (nor was my credit card charged). The gentleman never mentioned any snag in sending out the product. I’ve called repeatedly in the months since the order, and never get an answer… the phone just rings and rings. I reckin’ I won’t be getting any thinner from this company.

So that the $4 bottles of paint don’t go to waste, what other solvent or thinner can be used to thin Accu-Paint for air brush application and brush cleaning?

Should there be no compatible thinner, does anyone have any ideas of what other paint or paint mix would come close to that reddish brown Athearn used on the NYC plow? Better yet, what’s a good paint match (AVAILABLE paints) for NYC’s mineral brown of the 1950s and 60’s?

Accu-paint by SMP is not really paint at all, but actually a printers ink that can be used as paint. I’ve used it many times before and love it! Thinner is easy, as it is acetone based, so any good nail polish remover (straight, with NO lanolin) can be used. [:D] Word to the wise, procuring acetone without 1st clearing it with the better half may result in a large red mark appearing on the side of one’s head!![B)] [:-,]

Skip the nail polish remover, (too expensive), just buy the acetone at your local hardware store by the quart! (and no hassels with the wife).

BTW: anyone interested in half a zerox paper box of assorted accupaint? I don’t use solvent based “paints” anymore.
