Most containers that I seen say that they can only be repaired with Corten Brand Steel…
this logo is uslauy right next to Buritas Veritis logo…Why Corten whats wrong with good old US Steel?

IIRC, Cor-Ten was a US Steel brand name - stood for corrosion resistant 10xx series steel.

Cor-Ten was used in a lot of structural applications. The Daley Center in Chicago and the Chicago Picasso are both made of Cor-Ten steel.
Perhaps, it’s like saying “Repair with only genuine GM parts”?
Corten steel is designed to rust on the surface. Once the surface rusts no further corrosion takes place. the use of regular old carbon steel would eventually corrode all the way through and degrade the container.
Not! Much more like saying (of an aircraft,) “Repair with only FAA certified materials.” In this case they specified a material, not a manufacturer.

I’m confused. Is Cor10 a brand name, or the name of a certain type of steel product?
It is a patented steel by USX designed for exterior applications that requires no paint. The idea is that the entire surface rusts so no more oxidation can take place. It turns a very dark red that is almost maroon in color. The USX corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh has expsoed beams of the stuff. Personally I don’t care for it as an architectural feature but to each his own.

Cor-Ten Steel [US Steel] was very popular in the 1960’s and 70’s, as it was used where surfaces were exposed to weathering/oxidation. Many highway bridges were built with it. The savings was in not having to constantly repaint it.
Since corrosion involves electrolytic action, welding Cor-ten to non-Cor-ten steels accelerates the corrosion of the non-Cor-ten steel. There are accepted ways of joining the two but welding is not one of them.

I beleive the Missabes ore cars were made out of that.
The BNSF Latah Creek bridge at Spokane is made of it, too, isn’t it?
Hard to believe that there is only one maufacturer of stuff simerler to Cor-Ten type steel in the world… Somebody in japan or russia has to make this stuff…
In the post war era Pullman built many lightweight passenger cars from Cor Ten steel.
