Ok, so why do I keep getting an error message from IE when I use the “back” button to return after I read a thread or a post? Is it my ancient Windows XP and IE 8, or is it this web site?

More like a combination of the two. There’s a compatibility problem between IE and the forum software. Look to the right of your address bar. There’s a small icon that looks like a piece of torn paper. Click it once. That should resolve the problem. If it doesn’t, go to another browser. I went Firefox because of problems similar to the ones you’re having.

Yup. Firefox is the way to go with this forum!!

OK, thanks guys, I’ll check it out.

Mike.

Either Firefox or Opera. I’ve been using the latter for a couple of years now with no problems. Knock on wood.

Don’t want to mess with a new browser? Simply use the right button on your mouse.

When you click on the right button, it brings up a list of options. Use either “open in a new tab” or “open in a new window” (my preference!). When you’re done, click the “x” to close the tab or window.

May not eliminate the problem entirely, but it’s quick, effective and you don’t need a new browser.

Thank you, J W : you solved an irritating problem, by simply clicking an icon I’m back to normal, couldn’t figure out all the other solutions as I don’t speak computer( if only they would use proper words instead of computer gibberish) Remember, if you are speaking to someone about all the “stuff” on a ship and using all those cutesy-poo nautical terms, make sure you are talking to a sailor.

thanks again.

Use Firefox.

My software is older than yours (Windows 2000) and I haven’t used IE since I discovered Firefox. You probably know this, but you can have Firefox and IE both on your computer. In fact, you can run them both at the same time; i.e. you can simultaneously open this site with Firefox and other sites with IE, and switch back and forth at your convenience.
