please explain it for me. What is a “foamer” sounds like a mad dog but I know better. This term has been used in reference to train people and I am curious to know what it means. dave

Yep!

Only down side to this is that many professional railroaders have taken to calling all railfans “foamers”. Whenever I’m railfanning and talk to a railroader, I’m always polite, down to earth and friendly, whether they’re locomotive crew personnel or managers.
