This roofer must be goofing off because he never moves.

Hi All,

I’d like to create or buy some kind of ‘machine’ that slides the roofer horizontally from one part of the roof to another at a scale speed. Any ideas?

Perry,

what about a slide/belt mechanism similar to the lionel operating switch tower?

The AF Baggage Smasher repro also has a motor driven belt. The original had a coil that vibrated and Billy was on a mohair pad. Worked good but noisy. If you could find a Baggage Smasher cheap and gut it for parts, keep the motor in the building and extend the drive shaft to the belt or even gear it down some to slow it down some. It would be a neat project.

Maybe a little monofilament “belt” to a wheel inside that could be driven by a rod going to a tortoise machine or something similar? Push the button and he moves… Not sure, but I guess that would be too fast though…

Tough question…

It looks like your roofer just ran out of material…

Maybe you need a guy carrying a bundle of shingles up and down a ladder…that’s a bit easier.

Here’s another option…http://www.kramerproducts.com/desktop.htm

Kurt is closer to what I was going to suggest, up and down. Except if the roofer were me, he would be falling off the roof! Seriously, this is an interesting idea for more action on the layout, but I don’t know if I would want to alter that building to accomplish it. It looks nice really nice with the weathered shingle, platform, and steps. What is it?

Just normal Yankee worker. [(-D]

And soon to be on disability, unable to work and support your SS check! [:D]

Jack

More like a UNION worker…[:-^]

Thanks all for some great ideas.

Kurt,

I just called the staff at http://www.kramerproducts.com/desktop.htm and priced the roofer and carpenter and verified that they are1:48 scale. Thanks for this link…exactly what I want.

Jack,

I scratchbuild my wooden cabins and other structures. Glad you like them.

Chief,

Not sure if he’s a Yank or not? I think I saw him eating grits though. [;)]

Glad to help! [;)] Can’t wait to see the video!

Chalk one up for Perry. He got me that time.
