HI,
I am wondering if anyone knows where I can find more details about building a tilt-table for a 4’X6’ N-scale layout. I saw the page in Kalmbach’s book on building bechwork, but would like more information.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Woj

There was an article by Philip Mott in the March 1987 Model Railroader about “Tilt Top benchwork. This was for an N scale railroad. There was not a track plan, because the article was about the table, not the railroad. In the horizontal layout position, the table was described as being 36” X 78" In the dropped down storage position, the table structure was described as being 25" X 48" X 80-1/4 ". The top dimensions are slightly different than yours, but you should be able to make whatever modifications necessary to get your size.
There was a sketch showing the basic assembly, along with other construction information in the text.
If you can find this edition of the MR Benchwork book
starting on page 74 there is a how to (click the look inside link and see the table of contents). I wouldn’t pay the prices listed here ($34 for a used copy???) but you might find one cheaper or barrow one. The newer editions may have it too but I haven’t looked

Woj;
Both of my layouts tilt for storage; The 5 X 7 uses a marine actuator that opens the engine compartment on powerboats. It’s mounted to a roll around table.
The layout on the patio is 3 X 6 and is mounted to a stationary frame by a 6’ length of piano hinge. I fold it down when not in use. Check out the link below to see them to give you an idea for your own table.
