I am knew and have been at other railroad forums like this. I want to know a few things.
- Do we have moderators?
- Can I suggest new forums?
- Do we have athurity positions?
Please help me with my questions.

The sky’s the limit here as long as you keep the topic on trains or model railroads…There are no moderators or authority figures (except the guys in the editor’s office at Model Railroader Magazine but they keep it to a dull roar) just don’t use profanity or bad mouth this guy or dis’ that guy…there are children in the room…Chuck[:D]
Only as far as knowlege areas are concerned. I am known around here as an authority on scratch building. As far as sudo-facist type personalities. Thats some other forum.
James
Bout the only authority I can think of is # of posts…i.e. if you’ve posted 3000 times, you probably have a pretty good idea on train stuff. That’s not always the case, though, as experts like, well for example, “railman”, have only posted a few times and contribute well to many posts .
Typically if some one gets out of hand and doesn’t heed our cautions, we hog tie’m, brand them, tar and feather them then tie them to the rails. We all sit back talk about when the next train’s due and wait!
It’s a gret past time[:D]

BTW Welcome!
Thank goodness you’re not gnu! [:)]

Welcome aboard amtrakcalifornia.
IIRC Eric Bergstrom (Bergie) from MR is the moderator, but you don’t see him much. The forum has been remarkable good at self policing, and he doesn’t have to step in too often.
You can suggest new forums, but it probably won’t do any good. I think they’re going with a more simple approach than some of the other forums where the posts get split up between so many different forums. Actually, we have quite a few different forums here, if you look up under the forum index. This one (General Discussion - Model Railroader) , and the general forum at Trains Magazine, tend to be the catch-all’s with the most traffic.
I don’t know what an '" Authority Figure" is so I can’t offer any help there.
Hey, Cap’n Fergie, did we outlaw keelhauling?? Ooops, sorry, that’s over at the model shipbuilding forum. [:D]
Regards
Ed
Hmm, so why was it time for a change anyway?
Seems like everything is running well enough right now…

Glad to have you amtrakcalifornia!
I haven’t been on here long, but I can tell you that there is a lot of camaraderie as well as information. I enjoy it very much and have gained a lot.

Pleased to meet you.
I like to socialize mostly but I also get into debate in the Magazine-general discussion part of the forum. Most of the people in the forum are really friendly and great to talk to.
Hope you are satisfied here as I am and have a good time.
Andrew
Hey Ed
Keel hauling works, But all the action is underwater and unless you have a glass bottom it doesn’t make for a good spectator sport. Glass bottoms are to Icebreakers what screen doors are to Subs!

Welcome AmtrakCalifornia, It’s a lot of fun, and for the most part well behaved and self policed, which is nice.
Fergie, I like your ideas on dealing with misbehavior, Sound good to me. Hasn’t non-fouling bottom paint to prevent the buildup of barnacles taken a lot of the fun out of keelhauling?

Welcome Aboard AmtrakCal !!! Pull up an armchair, pour yourself a hot cup of java, and enjoy kibitzing with the rest of us!!!
Time for change?
It’s 8:30 PM CDT. Please send my change in quarters.
[:D]
Yeh[:(] but unlike sailing ships the newer ones have props and bow thrusters[:D]
Which goes to prove “there’s more than one way to skin a cat”
But since this is RR related, hog-tying them to the tracks would be the preferred way in these parts.

Railman, the number of posts is deceptive. I have a lot of experience in the hobby, but there are plenty of topics that I don’t feel qualified to respond to. Conversely, there are members that are truely experts, with very few posts. There even a few people who speak often and say little. Don’t be fooled.[swg]
As for Amtrakcalifornia’s 3 questions, there is only one answer. Bergie (3x).
