As a modeler at home and when participating at the modeler club, my sessions, at times, stretched on. Now as a player, they vary depending on if it is solo (just me) or with visitors.
Was wondering, how long would you guess your average running/playing/modeling sessions run?

Running sessions? Oh, about a half-hour to 45 minutes.
Modeling/building sessions, time as needed, maybe an hour to two hours.
Then a running session!

A lot of times when I am working on repairs of a train I have the trains running at the same time. Playing with them when the grand-kids are here about 1/2 hour before they change direction on me. [(-D]
As for modeling sessions I am pretty nuch done with the layout so not much these days. When I was building I would spend about an hour at a time.

An operating session is usually combined with a bit of layout tweeking. Generally about 1 1/2 hours. Sometimes a work session can last all day. Today’s was spread over 4 hours.

Not having a layout at present I can’t really comment. Things have changed since I last had one, some for the better some not. I had a 14’ x 14’ room when had my last layout and had a 8’ x14’ layout. on plywood. Now I have a room about 8’ x 11’ and I have no room for a layout due to furniture in here including my desk. I’m looking at 1 removing a piece to the garage and two rearrange the rest of the area to give me a 5’ 8’ area I can build on.
But to answer your question zero running and probably about 5 hours adau trying to figure how to do things.
For me lately, not enough! 
When I have the time, I usually fall in the 45 minutes to an hour range. It varies depending on the time of year. I hate to think of myself as a “seasonal” model railroader, but I tend to have more time during the winter than the summer. It doesn’t mean I don’t run my trains during July, but it is a lot less frequent.

Rob, Nothing wrong with “seasonal”, truth be know I bet we, at least us with winter are all somewhat “seasonal” model railroaders. I make a point to run them in the summer but it is not even close to winter run time. [;)]
I’m pretty much a seasonal runner now too.
I have small, permanent switching layout patterned after a 10’ x 2’ one in a book published by Atlas entitled “Six HO Track Plans You Can Build”. I changed it a little bit by adding a scissors crossing in the front. A couple of times a month I’ll mess about with it, but not too often. I’ll rearrange cars in different orders every once in awhile. I’ve always wanted to connect it to a proper layout where the trains I put together can run free! I can’t do that with my switchyard.
