Just viewed a “Tippi Hot Wire Foam Cutter” video. It looks ‘real easy’. BUT, then I started to read some Forum posts which suggest than using something hot on foam creates fumes.
Am I reading the information correctly or am I just [%-)] ? As always, many thanks.
I would use anything hot to cut foam when outside only because of fumes issue! You never know what is in a product today, example is particle board because it has almost 30% formaldihyde in it.
Try using a hacksaw blade or an exacto knife if the foam is thin.

Lee F. Thanks for advice.
I have seen an ad for foam which specifically states ‘no harmful fumes’. It’s part of a layout terrain and roadbed system.
I found it under the www.railserve.com listings for track and roadbed; I think it was offered by 'Scenic Express, but it could have been someone else.

i use it in my basement all the time on owens corning construction foam when I want to make smooth rock cuts. For rough outline etc I use a hack saw blade.
Unknown to most especially prior to 2004 all particle board and wood bi-product materials … as it ages gives off formadahyde fumes . So just think guys … that basement has been imbalming you slowly for years .
And here I thought it was all that Stoli that I used to ingest. [%-)]
If you don’t want to use a hot cutter I use a cable saw that is used to cut branches off of trees. It’s in most sportsman isles of stores. It’s only about 2 ft long and has rings on the ends. It’s just a wire with cuts in it. It takes some getting used to. You just move the saw back and forth, it’s does a pretty good job once you get use to it.
I have been using the Tippi foam cutter in the basement for a few years now, no adverse affects. The bottle of Jack Daniels in the basement seems to have a bigger kick.
