TMCC Conversions

While my Legacy system was out being updated, I discovered that I kind of missed the ability to walk around the layout running things with the hand held.

I am considering a TMCC conversion for a Williams GP-9. There is a vendor on e-bay who sells a variety of conversion kits. Other than that, or ordering replacement parts from Lionel, I have not seen any other sourced for conversion kits.

People on this forum have made references to running trains with TMCC conversions. What have you used? How much of an adventure was the installation? How well have the conversions worked?

There use to be a company know as Trains america studios that offered but it appears they have change ways of doing business and not to clear on it right now. I believe we use to be able to get there products thru marty at http://www.mapajunction.com/ but now I guess you would have to call him.

Also theres another company http://www.electricrr.com/index.htm

I have used the electricRR kits, not hard to do and work great.

I have done five conversions and I recommend ERR Conversions. The Chief talked me into doing the ERR instead of the TAS and I’m glad he did. It was so simple. I didn’t solder anything. Wire nuts were used at the splices. My directional lighting worked perfectly.

Buckeye and the Chief recommend ERR Conversions. [tup]

An ERR BEEP, [tup] .

If you want the best of what’s available today, then I don’t think you can do better than combining ERR’s Cruise Commander with a Digital Dynamics Railsounds 4.0 kit. The Cruise Commander has a serial data outout, which is what the Railsounds motherboard needs to play the proper sounds.

There’s a more detailed explanation of how I did this on a past project here:

Thanks, you guys. This information will help move the project along.

Chief - “you guys” is Yankee for “y’all”.

Buckeye - How about those Spartans? GO GREEN!

One more vote for ERR, I have done 2 Beeps and a LIONEL Speeder. No problem. I also did one with the Digital Dynamics. ERR was much easier, and works great.
