I’ve recently purchased a large portion of the Tomix Thomas the Tank Engine stuff. I am not fond of the Rapido couplers and have been wanting to replace them with the micro trains stuff.
However their website has no information at all on Tomix engines, let alone the Thomas stuff.
Any ideas on how I can figure out which couplers are the best ones to put in? What can I look for? i’ve never done this before and not sure which of their version works best for these troublesome trucks.
I don’t know the answer to your question, but if you do find the answer, please let me know. I’ve been debating purchasing a Thomas in N scale (my boys love Thomas). Also, can you convert Thomas to DCC easily?
I figure my N scale Pennsy coal drags are really missig a Thomas or Percy cut-in ahead of the cabin…
I wasn’t confident in my soldering skills so I dropped them off a Trainbuddy here in Wake Forest and he is going to do them for me. Figured it’d be worth it to pay someone to do it instead of turning them into junk.
If you google for ‘Thomas Tomix DCC’ the first hit will be a 2001 version of it being done but he says you can’t link from commercial sites so i didn’t put the link here. However recently I found This Version which is different than the other one, and then even another version that looked different inside was This Version
Wanted to re-visit the original question of micro-trains couplers.
I’ve gotten the cars out, and the couplers were body mounted originally. The base pops off easily leaving a connector on the base of the car (S.C. Ruffey if anyone cares)
This base doesn’t look like it’ll come off, and is molded. Should I somehow sand/cut this thing off and put on the base that came with the MT in using the screw? I had these shipped over from Japan so I’m a bit nervous and don’t want to destroy em just yet trying to put something that looks scale on non-scale cars like Thomas the Tank Engine and the Troublesome Trucks.
