Tonopah and Tidewater RR prepares for trip to Las Vegas

Well the railroad is completely broken down and in boxes for the move to Las Vegas. The U-Haul truck is reserved and I think it is interesting that it will travel though the very towns that it’s namesake served when it existed. In fact the roadbed of the Las Vegas and Tonopah RR became the Tonopah highway between Beatty and Las Vegas. After it’s arrival in Las Vegas it goes into storage until I can prepare it’s new home in a 3rd car garage.

The old version was 14’X14’ but it will now be 10’x20’ for the new version. I’ve also got to install some air conditioning to the room first. Garages get a tad hot in the summer. I used Siever’s benchwork so the sections are all 16" by 4’ . I will bolt the old parts together and then connect them with new sections to fit the new space. I’ve already used Cadrail to see how it will work. I’m trying to see if there is room for Death Valley Junction so I can work a little narrow gauge in.

I’ve also got to start meeting some Las Vegas modelers. What is the point of having a railroad without sharing some operating sessions? - Nevin

Good Luck and have Fun on your move, you sound excited to complete the trip. Is the garage and garage door insulated? If not, you may want to consider doing that.

Which part of Vegas are you moving to?

Definitely excited to get down there and then get it re-assembled. The garage is a 3rd car garage that is built into the house. Other than the door, it is well insulated. The door is definitely getting insulated. It wasn’t used for a car so it should be in good shape. We are moving to summerlin. - Nevin

I’m on the southeast edge of Henderson, almost to Railroad Pass (ironic, huh?). Send me a PM (conversation) when you get to Vegas.

I’ll send you that PM when I get settled in a few weeks.
