Hi from England[:)], what are the track centers for double track mains on curves with 89ft Auto rack’s and Auto Maxes being run. I want to build my layout so they dont hit each other.
Well, it depends on the radius of the curve. The broader the radius, the closer you can place the tracks. Generally, though (assuming you’re asking about HO trains), you should probably have the track centers at least 2 1/2" to 3" apart.
NMRA has recommended practices for track centers. See www.nmra.com.
I meant www.nmra.org.
What you are looking for is S-8 Track Centers at http://www.nmra.org/standards/s-8.html
This breaks down track centers according to the Class (size) of equipment you are running and the radius of the curves.
I model HO and a 2" center to center on straight track and 21/2" center to center on curves work well…Chuck
Thanks for everyone, u have been a great help
