Track Musings

I’ve still got code 100 EZ track on my Rock Ridge “Module” which will be lifted and installed on my new Rock Ridge and Train City. I know I should change it before the turnouts fail, but they’re working now and sleeping dogs and all that…

I’m going to be running code 83 with FasTracks turnouts. I like the idea of the nicer looking Micro-Engineering Track, but the price is scary. At least I can go with Atlas 83 in the staging area. I’m wondering how much difference it is really going to make after it is weathered and ballasted. Even my EZ track looked good after rocks and paint.

The price of Atlas Code 83 is mighty enticing–the ME is almost triple the Atlas.

I have M&E bridge track on my trestle, because it curves. It is way in the back and no one can see it. It looks a little better, but is hard to attach to Atlas 83, though I did it. I will continue to use Atlas for price, convienience and the fact that the look of the track is not the focal point of my scenery

Why don’t you get a piece of each and make a mini diorama and treat each brand to the level of weathering and ballasting that you desire and then see if there is enough difference to help you make the decision?

Simon,

Good idea.

Chip,

Where are you pricing this track??? At my LHS, the MicroEngineering Code 83 flex is $.60 higher than the Atlas per stick…just my [2c]

Don Z.

Don’t have an LHS with track other than EZ Track. I typed MicroEngineering Code 83 into Google and found prices ranging from $32.95 per 6 sticks to 36.95 for 6 sticks.

Chip,

Try http://www.modelrailwaypo.com/ad.htm, they’re listing it for $25.25 for 6 pieces.

It depends on what is more important - LOOKS or Operations

They both work!

The choice is down to LOOKS, Period!
