What specific curve radius are used for the HO 4 x 8 layout in this YouTube video? I am planning on building something like it. I am guessing the figure 8 in the center is 15" radius? But the outer curve is 18" or even 22"? If someone could provide a track plan diagram of the layout, thanks.
Hi there. The builder has a Website, and it seems to be this layout (New England Layout):

There are many photos - and yes, my guess is that the figure eight inside the loop has a radius tighter than 18’'. Why not contact him and ask? His coordinates are on his Website.

You could ask him in the comment section. I’m guesing you are right about the 22"
He builds custom layouts so me might not be forthcoming.
The description in the video describes the layout as having great operation in a small space. Very doubtful for two independent loops with only two spurs, no run around, etc. The bridge on the screen at the lower right isn’t prototypica. Based on his website, I’d say he’s better at Toy Trains than scale layouts. There are many 4x8s with much more potential. I believe one of the past Model Railroad Planning issues had a number of good 4x8s.

I agree with Ray. A lot of 4x8 layouts are much more operation oriented today designs have changed a lot in the last 10 years to be more than a loop

I agree with all of the above. The scenery is very nice but this layout does nothing that will hold the interest when operating it for longer than 10 -15 minutes! I have a 4x8, and I am still experimenting with different operating scenarios nearly 40 years on! That would not happen with just a loop.
I have helped a number of people build a layout and helped build 4 club layouts so I have not “stagnated” in that aspect of the hobby. You can check out my layout on https://railmodelleraustralia.com/RMA%20Mag%20May%202021%20web.pdf and there are other downloads on the site. Enjoy the reads but please consider a donation!
