Can anyone recommend any track design software that supports HO KATO Unitrack, or any websites/books with HO KATO Unitrack track plans?
Sadly, no.
I think there is a manual written in Japanese but to date I have not seen any “Atlas Style” Kato Manual in the USA. I would love to see one. Especially considering the expense of the switches. All of that measurements in Degrees and MM’s combined with the different sections make my head hurt.
I think you need to whistle up a tractor trailer load of assorted Kato Track and a large Maritime Sail Loft with big floor space and sit cross legged trying various combinations until you come up with one that works.
Safety–You may be right alas.
Plan your layout for any sectional track then make your Kato track work. Any track can be cut–even Kato. You can use the Atlas RR and use Atlas Track. You just need to give it a little more space. When I build with EZ track I needed 4’ 6" to fit a plan that called for a 4 x 8 with Atlas.
And read my Beginner’s Guide to Layout Design in my signature before you start buying stuff.
XtrkCAD software is a free download, and comes with “libraries” for most of the Unitrak pieces (but not all).
On that note, does anyone out there have any leads on XtrkCAD parameter files for the newer Unitrack bits such as double track plates?
