I’m new to Model RR… I’m just curious what’s the best track… the Atlas, or the snap together kind? Do you still need to use roadbed with both?
You don’t have to use roadbed but unless the track is laid over foam, you’ll get quieter running if you do. Also, the roadbed looks better, especially for mainline scenes. It’s hard to go wrong with standard old Atlas Code 83 flextrack and turnouts. When I built my first layout as an adult, I used Bachman EZ Track. It didn’t last long before it got replaced.
definently go with atlas flextrack and turnouts. Its fairly cheap, runs reliably and the turnouts are DCC friendly if you decide to convert.
Go for flexi tracks. It is cheaper, you can tailor them to your own track plans and you are not restricted to the fixed radius of the set tracks. Take a look at Peco or Micro-Engineering flexi tracks, both are very good. Cork roadbed will make your trackwork look more realistic especially after ballasting.
