In spite of the fact that it means that I was just mooned by Zardoz, I voted for his picture. Outstanding!
However, Jim, I have to ask you how you pulled that off. A full (or nearly full) moon would be rising around sunset or setting around sunrise, so I wouldn’t expect the twilight effect to be on the same side of the sky as the moon is. Of course, the bulk of my experience with such matters is in an urban or suburban environment, which Clyman Junction, based on an educated guess, isn’t.
Voted for Ribar. However, I must say all six shots were exceptional and the decision was tough. Usually I can automatically reject two or three before even opening the vote page. Townley was my first choice until I opened the full Ribar shot.

A strong collection this time around, all matching the theme. I dithered for a while, but eventually went for Eric Williams. I liked the added interest of the clean silhouette of the steel trestle and the softer silhouettes of the foreground trees.
The text with the “moon picture” seems odd. If the full moon is setting, it must be sunrise (behind the photographer). So why wait all afternoon for it to line up? Was it instead the rising moon? The color in the background sky makes me wonder if we aren’t looking at a bit of Photoshop magic. I do recognize that occasionally a really vivid sunrise/sunset can get reflected in the opposite sky; to have that coincide with the phase of the moon is really fortunate.

This is probably the best and most exciting group of pictures ever presented trackside! Each one tells the story called for by the topic, each one is crafted and presented well. And the two Reader Submissions caught my eyes best. While Eric’s shot of NJT/MNRR on Moodna should grab me for first place if only because it it NJT/MNRR on Moodna, I’ve got to go with Jim’s moon shot as the most unique and first rate use of the topic and the camera! Never before has a topic or theme been so well presented and with all the possibility of being first choices!

Outstanding Collection of Photos. The best submissions I have seen over the years. It was hard to vote for just one.
The photos are a waste of time. They show nothing. If I want art, I’ll go to a museum. I want railroad photos and information, not railroad art. Leave that to the picture magazines. Don’t waste space on artsy photos.
Sorry you feel that way. As one who campaigned for the “artsy” side, I rather like the idea of taking unique approaches.
If I want to see roster shots of trains, there are plenty of sites available.

No photo is a waste of time. It shows a moment of time of a particulars subject or the eye of the photographer. Hootax, I don’t know what your definition of “artsy” is nor what you expect of a train picture. But you have a right to your expectations as much as anyone else. Three quarter wedge shots, head on cab shots, billion milliliter zoom shots, roster shots are not all there are to photography but they do seem to be the most prevalent…almost to the point that all shots are the same with different insignias and colors and thus boring to many. But a moon slipped between the legs of a sand tower, the outline of a train against sunset or a moon light sky or with ambient light outlining the form or a billow of steam and turns one’s head to look and look and look again because it is so different…geeze! I wish every one of my shots could do that! And I am sure there are thousand more photographers of trains and birds and whatever else enters the viewfinder would say the same thing! Call it artsy, if you want, but it is what photography is all about.
At least he recognized our efforts as “art”.
Although I can’t help but wondering who p’d in his cereal this morning.
If you try, you may find many of the decaffeinated brands are just as tasty.
