Drew, you might want to fix the Reader Submissions to show who is who- I’m the only one with my name at the end. Kinda hard to figure out who to vote for amongst the other three (I do want to play fair).[swg]
Oh, and thank you for selecting mine for the competition…[:D]
Yes. I want to vote but can’t tell who’s whose?
Also the new…this week’s 10/21/13 Trackside is not posted on these pages however is posted in the Newsletter which does not go to everybody nor does it open up for comments.
Ok, it seems to be fixed…
…at any rate I found the Reader Submissions more appealing than the staff’s pictures…with Robert Jorden getting my vote…not just a grain train or a group of grain trains, but the elevator with grain train at it was most compelling of all pics presented and a hair more than the other smaller evening shot of a train going by an elevator.
I chose Brian’s: Urban backgrounds seem to do it for me more than the most beautiful scenery, and there is definitely both train and grain in his shot!
I hope the tin shoes have holes in 'em to let the flood-waters drain out!
Great subject, very disappointing photos. As bizarre as it was, the Cedar Rapids shot showed more grain and grain-related objects in the periphery, so I somewhat reluctantly voted for it as the lesser of the evils.

I also was expecting a better selection. Those trains of covered hoppers more than likely are hauling grain (or returning empty), but that is a pretty tenuous connection to the theme. A unit potash train looks much the same! I eventually voted for the Great Western train at the Climax elevator.

Some very nice photos this week… I voted for the Climax shot also…I felt it best reflected the theme GRAIN.
Close second was the shot with the piles of grain along the tracks.
Thanks all

I went with Robert Jordan’s photo. Nothing quite says grain haulage like an elevator in the vastness of the Prairie Provinces.
