traction motors/green light

how do I distingui***he noise of a traction motor from other noises? and also, I’ve seen a little green light on the front side near the steps on NS units, anyone know what the light is? thanks

Vacuum toilet light

Well, almost Rodney, it’s a toilet service light, if functioning correctly it indicates that the toilet tank is not full, if the light is out, it means the tank is full and/or the toilet needs servicing.

Visit an electric railroad museum, the traction motor sounds on a modern locomotive are almost identical to a streetcar. I noticed this the other day on a C30-7 in notch 2, light train. Reminded me of riding North Shore cars at East Troy when I was a kid.
