Can anyone recommend a train store in Asheville? I’m going to have some free time tomorrow morning after my conference and found two on the Lionel website. Based on past experience with Lionel’s dealers site though, either or both stores could very well be out of business…
Not sure. Look in the yellow pages. That is what I do when I fly into a town. I think there is a big die cast store there. Good luck. Too bad you can not get to Bryson City. Great Smokie Mountain RR is there and train shop.
Chief, I agree with the yellow pages as a good source for hobby shop listings… I might add that it is always a good idea to give them a call and verify their business hours…Head or heels, I have used both…
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I had less time than I thought, but did manage to stop by The Toy Store. Unfortunately, they had only a small section of Lionel and MTH, and some G stuff as well. And no layout. Pricing was full retail.
I did hear about the Hobby House in Hendersonville, but just didn’t have time to swing by there.
I have been to Smoky Mountain Trains before, and they have a GREAT O layout and museum if you’re ever in the Bryson City area. You can also take a ride on the Great Smoky Mountain railroad while you’re there.
Actually, it was a nice trip. The conference I was attended was held at the Grove Park Inn, and was company paid. Wouldn’t pay to stay there myself I don’t think, but as long as it is someone else’s dime…
Wish I had had more time so swing through Hendersonville though on my ride home.
If you return to the area Asheville Diecast is roughly halfway between Asheville and Hendersonville. No trains to speak of but plenty of vehicles. Worth a stop. And there is great HO layout located in the old Hendersonville train station a few blocks from Main St. I think the club meets Tuesdays and Saturdays.
