I assume AMTRAK uses CSX tracks. Norfolk Southern sounds about as eager to support passenger rail as Uncle Pete.
Be sure and bring up our promised service from Asheville to Spencer on the NS S-line, and the service to Wilmingtonas well. The entire state, mountains and coast, need service, not just Charlotte, the Triad, and the Triangle.
Amtrak uses the state owned NC railroad from Charlotte to Raleigh, NS also leases the NC railroad.
Amtrak uses NS, CSX, and NC Railroad tracks. The price tag for the Asheville route has been known or years, and NS has been willing to work with NCDOT to get it going. But Raleigh had diverted the money to other projects for at least 10 years, postponing the service every year. NC politicians generally believe the state ends just west of Charlotte and Salisbury. For years the mountains and foothills have lived off the crumbs of the central part of our state.
