Trains New Wire EXCLUSIVE: St. Paul Union Depot opening railfan park

Thank you. Had been hoping a platform would show up near the wye eventually. I’ve got a new destination for train watching.

Looking forward to checking it out.

cooool. just drove through that area a couple of weeks ago. darn. lol

How generous and considerate. Thank you to The Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority.

Was just in that area visiting friends in august, now I will have to plan another visit

Awesome place to watch trains. I use to drive up and down Sheppard/Warner road on my lunch hour to watch trains when I lived there. Lots of trains to see. I often times saw three or four trains heading north out of the CP yard all at the same time. BNSF runs trains on tracks just east of the CP and UP has a yard between the CP and the river. Gonna be awesome.

Great!! I’ve thought for years they should squeeze something in along Warner Road, but this sounds like a muc hbetter idea. Now somebody needs to put up a web cam or two (trains will run on both sides of the park if I am not mistaken…).

Since CP decided railfans parking at Dayton’s Bluff are terrorists several years ago, there’s been no good place to park in that area of St. Paul. This is a much-welcome addition to the Twin Cities railroad scene.

There are Railfan parks opening all over, which is awesome! Fostoria, a few in Florida, now this!

This is great that another city accommodates the rail fan community. Must have followed the example of Rochelle, Ill. That is a great place.

This is a wonderful addition to help the public understand just how important that rail transportation is to our country. This is true of both freight and passenger.

Yay! Now, once Amtrak makes its station stop at the St. Paul depot, we’ll be all set.

Kudos to the Ramsey County Authority! Another reason to visit the transformed SPUD.

With the Minnesota weather, I would hope that the gazebos are enclosed, or a guy will get mighty cold.

For s that live far away from St Paul and in other states, the idea of a couple of web cams is a great idea. If they use the system like the one at the Hotel Roanoke in Virginia, you will actually be able to see the trains move rather than just a blur like at the Folkston Funnel, although I did enjoy that as well. Any train watching is good train watching, even if it’s from hundreds of miles away. Listening to the crews is also fun so that option might be considered as well.

Thumbs up St Paul! Hoping John Diers publishes a reprint of his book updating the latest developments.
