It won’t necessarily free up the GE’s; the Gen-Set in Oakland, CA is in the shop at least 40% of the time. “Software Problems” always seems to be the culprit. Why didn’t they just go with ECO-re-power from Progressive? Much more reliable, and the power is always there.
how long till they go to the shops for repairs?
Software issues? Can’t be. If these companies developing software forced their programmers out of the cubicle and into the real world so they can see how things really work, they just might actually produce software that works as intended the first time. Software issues are not new. Anybody remember the Microsoft MS-DOS joke, Quality Is Job 3.3?
Meanwhile, at least two truck engines on steel wheels appear like a locomotive is supposed to, unlike Amtrak’s fleet of road power.
Freak Show time!
The way this article is worded it appears these locomotives do not work! Delivered but unable to put into service? I suspect the builder received progress payments as construction proceeded but when the goods arrive at purchasers business theydo not work. Nice. What happened to the America that could do things rright?
It’ll be nice to see more B-32s on the road
Maybe Amtrak, and MP, should get the ‘O’Bamacare’ programmers to fix them!
Goosie hasn’t said anything negative about Amtrak? SHOCKING!
Our tax dollars at work.
I am glad to see that gensets are starting to get more field use. With out service in the real world the bugs can not be worked out.
Yuichk! is the best way to describe the color scheme on these two genset engines. No reason for them to leave the Chicago yard except for an emergency.
