Nice to read good news in the morning! Thanks Trains!
It’ll be great to see her under steam in coming years. Hopefully
#4014 will make it to Omaha on various steam trips. Thumbs up
to UP and TRAINS!
I hope one of the video companies like Green Frog or Greg Scholl is there to record the sequence of events we’ve read about above. It would be nice to have a video of the restoration from the first move on panel track to the first trip under it’s own power. I would certainly buy one.
fantastic! now if they could resurrect the 4294 cab forward that is in sacramento.
This is incredible railroad history . Thank You to Trains magazine and the Union Pacific Railroad for making this possible.
Thanks to Trains and The Union Pacific.
Big Boy 4014’s return to Cheyenne is truly a great story! Keep the articles coming!!
Great coverage Trains! Keep it up. Although I live in the East and would rather see a NYC steamer return to the rails…I’m excited about what the return of a Big Boy means for rail preservation.

My Company Railyard Productions will be taping for the debut run after the rebuild.
Cool! I hope to see it in steam.
LIKE ALL RAILFANS, THIS WILL BE A GREAT THING TO SEE A BIG BOY ON THE RAILS AGAIN. I HAVE SEEN THEM IN VIDEO’S BUT TO SEE ONE RUNNING WILL BE FANTASTIC. JOHN SCRUGGS INDEPENDENCE CA.
Today a Big Boy, maybe tomorrow a Big Blow? Even if it were powered by some other means just to see one of the turbines again in Echo Canyon etc. would be first rate!
I hope I can see it roll thru Salt Lake City.
Can’t wait to see the 4014 in action. I have seen several of the Big Boy’s on display over the years. Great addition to the 3985 and 844. Keep up the good reporting. Hope there is a DVD coming at the end when it is up and running. Lynn N. would be proud!!
AC-12 #4294? YES!
The real thanks should go to the Rail Giants Museum for taking care of 4014 for 52 years. UP only took care of her for 17 years. It’s sad that Rail Giants’ contribution to this whole endeavor will be largely forgotten and under-appreciated.
