Trains News Wire EXCLUSIVE: Rail service returns to a still-shaken Lac-Mégantic
Selling the railroad doesnt matter. Changing the operational rules, makes the difference. Trains were not meant to operate with 1 crew member. 2 men in the engine is a must…ask the passengers on last sundays Bronx accident.
I would not consider this an exclusive, as I saw several news stories with all of this information out yesterday. I guess you could say Trains is exclusive in the timing this story is coming out, aka later than the other news outlets.
My heart goes out to all the folks in that beutifull little town, god speed on the continued recovery from this disaster.
RE: “The new trackage is owned by the municipality, which can control what products are moved through town.”
This sounds like a bad precedent, or has this always been the case here?
I hope all railroads will learn something from this horrible accident. I hope that whatever company that takes over this railroad will make it ten times better.
I do hope the “Irving Companies” are the successful bidders. It makes sense, to me, to have the MM&A connected with Irving’s NBSR and EMRY, etc., all being Canadian-owned and somewhat regulated.
I don’t see why this article is titled as ‘exclusive’ as I found this story on several news websites the day before this even did on the Trains news wire. If by exclusive you mean the fact that Trains published this story later than every other news site that has reported this story then yes, this is exclusive.
Weeks ago the Quebec police announced that they were “within a few weeks” of making arrests in this disaster. Since then, nothing more seems to have been reported on criminal charges. Many of us are awaiting the spectacle of “perp walk” by Ed Burkhardt, but they don’t do that in Canada do they? All is so gentlemanly and understated. Where is the outrage? When will we learn anything about this mess? Burkhardt walks free, the engineer walks free, the owner of the cargo walks free, but forty seven people are dead.
