Trains News Wire EXCLUSIVE: Western Maryland Scenic to acquire, restore C&O 2-6-6-2

Wow! What a great year! With the start of a restoration about to begin on a Big Boy and now another articulated, do we live in an awesome time?

What this csx actually has a heart and will move steam its a miracle.

Apparantly they will move steam as long as it doesn’t move on its own wheels.

@Roger Cole of West Virginia: from WMSR’s own web page -
“The locomotive has been moved to the B&O Railroad Museum’s restoration facility in preparation for shipment to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad shops. Once this is complete, the locomotive will travel by rail on specialized flat cars pulled by CSX.”

Am I dreaming, of have we gone “back to the future”. Now if someone could just get the 1218 back under steam in Roanoke…(wink, wink) the transformation would be complete. If i am dreaming please don’t wake me.

I WAS JUST IN CUMBERLAND LAST WEEK. JUST THINKING OF THIS STEEL MONSTER BELCHING THRU THE “NARROWS” IS ENOUGH TO HUMBLE ANYONE.

BRUSH TUNNEL DRAWS A CROWD WHENEVER A STEAMER PASSES–JUST WAIT TILL THIS MACHINE BLASTS BY!

Sat in the cab of this locomotive a few years ago before they blocked it off. I’ve been hoping that one of these locomotives would be restored to running condition. Oh happy day! Now if we could get a Clinchfield Challenger and a NW mallet, get 1218 back to running condition like 611. Would also like to see 4501 making the rounds again as well. I’ve got a bug wish list!

Seems like everyone is following UP’s lead with restoring big engines, just hope they don’t bite off more than they can chew.

Big Boy 4014 was in near pristine condition. The 1309 looks like the years outside have not been kind. Makes me wonder what it looks like under the “hood.” But if the railroad has the cash, more power to them. GO BIG STEAM EVERYWHERE!!!

By the way, 4014 is just an hour away from arriving back home for the first time in 59 years. What a day for Cheyenne, Wyoming!!!
