Anyone see the article about CSX corporate jets? It’s under the TrainsPro title. It appears that the new owners may be splitting off the corporate news part so that Trains magazine will be just for enthusiasts. I hope so.
Pennywise and dollar foolish.
Recall back in the day SBD was requiring their officials to DRIVE everywhere - yep 10 hours on I-95 between Jacksonville and Richmond is real productive executive time.[/sarcasm]
They can still fly commercial.
It’s great if the want to go to Atlanta, otherwise.???
They’re called connections. Most corporations don’t have an aviation department.
So Senior executive time is not worth any more than a family traveling on vacation.
Well, I’m sure they fly Domestic First with wifi. If they were so concerned about direct flights, they should’ve located HQ in ATL, WDC or NYC. Jacksonville was sort of a strange choice.
PS My point in starting this thread was to bring attention to Trains’ new division, not so much the particular story.
We are in 2025. How much is really needed to be done in person vs a zoom call?
They can always charter a jet. The railroads contract out just about everything else.
My understanding is it will be replaced with a VistaJet or NetJets service.
Corporate fractional contracts have gotten extremely competitive due to growth in the overall industry making dedicated biz jet divisions somewhat expensive to maintain now.
In fact the corporate fractional biz jet business has gotten so big, when the USG shut down last month and the FAA started restricting passenger flight volumes to compensate, the CEO’s complained that airspace management is getting overwhelmed with biz jets.
While they hold fewer people, they require the same amount of ATC, flight separation and approach controls as the larger planes, and it is clogging the system.
As for Trains Pro. I can get the same news feed from Progressive Railroading for free by just signing up. I know why Firecrown did it, but it’s not mature and the news is anywhere from 3 days to a week behind in publication. If said railroad does a PR Newswire announcement, it shows up in my news feed almost minutes after.
Nothing against them, it’s just not there yet.
