What are the advantages of replacing the trucks that come with freight cars in HO gauge? Would the cars run smoother with less problems such as derailments?
I purchased 33" ribbed back wheels from Proto 2000 series as recommended by several on this Forum
If the suggestion is to replace the trucks, which trucks would be suitable? Or should I simply replace the wheels and keep the trucks?

The advantage of replacing the whole truck and not just the wheel sets is because you don’t have to match up the axle size. If you check out the Reboxx and NorthWest Short Line web sites, they have a axle size chart.
Some trucks have wheel sets specifically designed to roll very freely like the P2K.
Another consideration is looks. Nice details, correct for the type of rail car and era.

Thank you, gsetter. You’ve given me plenty of info. The “Question 10” recommendation was jammed pack with good-to-know info.

I should also mention an NMRA Standards Gage is a must toll for the tool box. I have three HO (I keep mis-placing it) and one N (for HOn30).
