Hi all Does anyone know what the default setting is for the Auto Exhaust Rate for a Tsunami? I think it’s CV 116 (Engine Exhaust Control) I read the manual and can’t find a default setting, I want to adjust this CV as it is way out of sync with the drive wheels around speed step 14 or above. I would like to know it as a starting point without having to reset the decoder if I mess it up completely. I have set other CV’s that are working nicely on my beautiful Bachmann USRA 2-10-2, love your help as always!!
I have my Bachmann 2-8-0 with the chuff rate in CV116 set at between 75 and 100 and usually run it with the speed of 21 showing on my throttle. Don’t know what the default setting is.
Upon looking at the manual again , CV 186 also plays a part in this , but again no default setting!! It would be great if manufacturers would include defaults for all CV’s so we would know where we are starting at , The manual states " at higher speeds the chuffs may begin to run into each other resulting in a strange whirring sound. This can be corrected by programming a higher value into CV 186. In general the faster you plan on operating your engine or the higher the value you have set for CV 116 , the higher a setting you will need for CV186 to maintain the proper exhaust cut off over the locomotives speed range’ That’s all well and good but where the hell are we at CV 116??? Do I go up or down !! I’m so lost !!
Did you try to read back what was in CV 116 on a programming track? If I recall it is about a value of 80.
Plug in 100 and see if it is close to where you want it and adjust up or down from there to correct it if needed.
Unless Soundtraxx has changed the range of possible values for CV116, it has a range from 1-255. I find that if I start with a value near 140, I usually have to work my way up from there to get four chuffs per revolution.
Before you do any of this, you should fine tune your motor’s drive characteristics by fiddling with the CV’s near 208-212…I think those are the numbers.
