Twin Cities Metro Transit marks first anniversary of Green Line

Amazing what happens when you install a well thought out and executed transit system. Of course, the green line was also delayed for years by NIMBYs and other combinations of political animals from both sides of the spectrum as is now happening with the proposed line to Eden Prairie. If memory serves, one of the contentions with the green line was the the vibration from the cars was going to disturb delicate experiments on the University of Minnesota campus (as opposed to the thousands of cars and semi trucks passing the same location every day).

Needed next: a solid study of the current and eventual economic benefits to areas on and near this line. My guess is that it will be very positive. Then wave it under the former opponent’s noses.

Don’t need to do a “study” of economic benefits. A set of open eyeballs will do.
I recently visited a business along the green route. Wow! The economic development is impressive, Lots of new and rebuilt construction and lots of new or expanded businesses. The owner of the business said it was worth the pain during construction. He can’t be happier.
