Does someone know what type horns SP used on their SD70’s and AC4400cws? I am thinking either nathan or leslie 3’s but I would like to know which for sure. Thanks in advance. RGH.\

while I am at it, was there a standard for the tunnel motors…just curious.

I believe they used Leslie 3’s but not positive. Hope that helps.

For many years, the stananard SP horn was the Nathan P3. This horn was common on all freight locomotives including the SD40T-2’s/ SD45T-2’s. However, when newer power came to the system in the 1990’s, there were all sorts of mismatched horns of different types. Some of the MK rebuilt SD40/45’s had Leslie horns while the SD70M’s were delivered with Nathan K3LA’s. The AC4400’s returned to the old standard of the P3, and were equipped with flashing dtich lights to boot. Hope that helps!
