Hi there. This is a very informative board and I really enjoy reading the posts here. I was just wondering about scanners. I’m considering buying a handheld one to monitor railroad activity (dispatcher etc) and was wondering if there are any opinions on which are the best, what their range are etc etc.
Thanks [:D]
as far as a brandname they are pretty much the same you will pay more for more channels there are 99 railroad frequencys used by the railroad all in the VHF spectrum ranging from about 159.000 Mhz to 161.500 Mhz you can get the exact frequencys on the FCC database, bearcat makes a good scanner i have had good luck with radio shack brand scanners depending if you are looking for a portable unit or a base/mobile. stay away from crystall type scanners they are obsolete and crystalls are expensive
